  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

suspension set up

I have a 2010 smr510 and was wanting some help setting the suspension. My other bike had setting recommendations in the Manual, as a starting point. I am 6'2 and weigh 265 geared up. I am looking for the settings for an aggressive rider. Thanks for all your help.

Suspension is always a tricky one Shag, what is great for one person may not be for the next.
Set your sag front and rear, this will tell you whether or not you need to re-spring then set all your clickers to the middle then its a case of tryin different settings.
On my Husaberg 650SM I picked my favorite stretch of twisty road and just kept riding it for hours, adjusting ONE THING AT A TIME!! Don't be tempted to adjust multiple things or you won't know what worked.
Adjust it until you get it how you like it, it takes time and patience, there is no perfect setting that anyone can give you, unfortunately you have put the work in yourself if you want good results.

Thanks Freaky, I am going to set the sag soon .I was just looking for a starting point the middle is as good as any.I thought maybe a couple of people with my dimensions could chime in so i could compare and work from that point. Once again thanks.

Try a site called supermotojunkie shag, proper supermoto forum dedicated to bikes like yours.

Wow, that sounds very familiar as I just got a 2010 SMR510 and I'm 243 lb (without gear... or anything for that matter). I've only ridden it briefly but it's obvious that the forks are seriously undersprung, while the rear felt pretty close. When I looked into the spring rates I found the rear is 6.4 which is exactly what I ran on my CRF supermoto race bike. However the SMR fork springs are only .50 which is way too soft for my weight. I use .52 for motocross and .60 for supermoto. Nobody has off the shelf Marzocchi fork springs at anything over than a .50 rate that I was able to find so I had to have a set made from Cannon Racecraft. If you look at their catalog there are two options for the 50mm Husky Marzocchi forks, the SMR uses the open cartridge type. The springs should be here next week so once I get them in I can set my rear sag and I should be good spring wise and then I can start fiddling with damping. This is just a street bike, no racing this bike, so it doesn't really need to be spot on. I'll update this thread after I get the springs in and let you know how it feels.

BTW, the stock settings are listed in the manual. Here they are...
fork comp (bottom) 12 out
fork reb (top) 12 out
shock sag 3.75"
shock low comp (inner clicker on reservoir) 15 out
shock high comp (red knob) 15 out
shock reb (bottom) 18 out
