  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Supermoto brake caliper spacing on 2011 TXC449?

All,

I did a quick search on the forum and came up blank. Anyway, I need a caliper spacer bracket to accommodate the 320mm rotor on my supermoto front rim. I bought the supermoto rims used, the front came with the husky issue brembo 320 mm rotor. Any advice on where I can get a caliper spacer to suit the following options:

1) Preferred option: Install Nissin monoblock radial caliper from my pile of ZX6R track spares (have spare MC too)

2) Install stock caliper (should I be running different pads for supermoto?)

Are the caliper 100mm or 108mm spacing? also what is the rotor offset. I made a bracket for my TC449 and te511 with the KYB forks. The nissin calipers might hit your spokes or need some trimming on the back side..

Thanks for the responses.

Fast1 (mike) is going to hook me up with a bracket to relocate the stock caliper but I'm still interested in installing my 108mm Nissin monoblock.

R. Stephen, how did you make your bracket? Looks awesome. Unsure about rotor offset since rims are at my dads right now. What is the best way to measure rotor offset?

The stock husky SM rotors are a 5mm offset I believe, most others have no offset and are flat. I believe QTM makes a 108 mm caliper bracket that will fit the KYB forks. I made my bracket for 100 mm calipers. I have since swapped out my forks with 50 mm Marzocchi ones so no bracket needed any longer. For and hard stops or extended stops where the heat builds up the Warp 9 rotor will warp like a potato chip with the stock dirt caliper and it just doesn't have enough power. For tame street riding it will be ok but anything else to will be undersized.

Good job I've got the brembo front rotor then. How did you make your bracket, it looks cast. Did you start with the bottom of another fork and machine it?

It is one off billet. Modeled it and had it made, then powder coated it. worked great but noting compares to the real Marzocchi forks

So after too much recent focus on track days with my ZX6R, I'm finally getting 'round to fitting my supermoto wheels to the TXC449. I bought some used SM rims and as R. Stephen mentions above, my stock Husky/Brembo front rotor has ~5mm offset.

Anyone know what the front wheel spacer arrangement needs to be for a rotor with 5mm offset? Can I use the original front axle and/or spacer?

Should I modify (skim) the caliper bracket by 5mm to accommodate the offset?

Your Nissin Caliper is 108 MM Bolt spacing. Way overkill for a SM btw, I run those on my ZX-10r and they are one of the most powerfull stock calipers available. I have Brembo HP on my other 10R and the Nissins are every bit if not more powerfull.

Go to Lowes and get some washers, use them until spacing is correct then measure and you will know exactly what size space to get . Yoydyne carries all thee different spacer thicknesses.

So I got my front wheel fitted. Took some messing around with the 16.5" rim size - brake pads went in last during assembly.

Had to skim a few mm off the caliper bracket mount points to accommodate the offset on the brembo rotor.
Also, had to add a 3 mm spacer on the non-rotor side of the axle, the spacing is slightly different on the older hub/ bearings
