  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Strange clutch fluid loss

obchris

Husqvarna
B Class
07' TE 450 mineral fluid loss. In the past I've replaced the braided line due to seepage at the bottom. Fixed no problem at that time.
Next issue was complete loss of clutch control, with dry reservoir, vehicle had been sitting. Found no obvious fluid leakage at Master, or the recently replace line. So next logical step, I replaced Slave cylinder cover/case with a ZipTy, and a 7602 piston/seal. Again fixed with no problems at the time.
3rd issue this time; While still operating loaded up vehicle (live at sea level near the ocean). Took it up to the Mountains @ 8-9000' altitude & very low humidity. After it sat over night, the next morning - total loss of control clutch, w/ dry reservoir. Topped off fluid level ,bike was fine the entire day of riding. Next morning same thing - dry. Topped off again, no problems, but this time during mid day/noon, and out of concern I checked fluid level - fine level with no loss of fluid.
So it appears to be only leaking overnight at rest, & up in the mountains.
Has anyone else experienced something similar to this ?
I think it's leaking at the slave piston seal and shrinks slightly at rest due to high altitude, and very dry conditions. I'm betting it'll be fine when I take it back home !?!

#2 Also separate question with hydraulic clutch control ;
When the clutch does leak at the slave piston seal, does it drain into/with the engine/crankcase oil?
And is that why the manufacture doesn't want you to use brake fluid ?

I have the same bike. I put in the slave kit (piston and X ring) and never had any more problems.

OEM stock slave kit, or aftermarket ? You wrote X ring so I'm assuming the manufacturer is 7602 ?

If the slave seal fails I believe it will leak into the trans.

My 2010 takes brake fluid, does yours take mineral oil?

What are you putting in there?

It was a few years ago, so I can't remember, but probably.
What kind of bike is your Brutal e675, and your Hodaka 100 ? I don't think I've ever heard of one of those. Can u post pics ?
Also, would you like to go riding sometime ? As I am just south of you in SD...

The Brutale is a MV Agusta....the same people who built my TE 450. The Hodaka is a model 98 Super Rat, circa 1974.

I'm always up for some riding.:)

Latest update;
Purchased new xring seal itself at dealer for under $10.
Contacted/called 7602 & spoke to a technician who says the seals are designed and manufactured in Colorado at high elevation. The only issue they've sometime seen is the use of 2 aftermarkets together ie, 7602 & Zip Ty. (of course my local dealer wants to sell me as much as possible, & recommended the use of both zipty @ $100 & 7602 @ $45)

Bottom line; He recommends the 7602 xring/piston be used with the stock magura case/cylinder.

So I'm going to pull it back off. Replace the xring seal, and put the old stock case back on and see what happens over time...and have good excuse to go back up to Big Bear soon!

To re fix my ex TXC450 I sized the oem orings and upped the diameter and ordered some viton orings from an oring company- I also oredered the latest 7602 slave piston but did not use the x rings. I will look but I think i used the oem slave cylinder and removed the ZTR one. I will check, DD I consider myself the master of these things I had so many equipment fails at all ends of this system- from worn slave psitons to worn orings to worn x rings to failed master cylinders and failed master piston kitseven hose leaks. the up sized oring did the trick it went in tight but clutch feel is still fine. its such a simple hyd system but somehow a thorn in the side of those models, after those 450s i never had any problems with my 310s

I will have a look at the bike and tell the config of the set up and see if i can dig up one of the oversized orings i got

I checked the latest update config in the 2008 TXC450, I went with latest spec. 7602 piston with these viton orings, instead of the 7602 supplied x ring, which I did try only to have fluid leak bypass.
I used the OEM slave cylinder (removed the ZTR slave). The OEM slave cylinder has a smoother bore than the ZTR cylinder, the thing seems bullet proof now (again ) . oring went in hard with a tight seal, but clutch feel is fine.

MV Agusta " We dont just build motorcycles we engineer emotions" Now that's very Italian!!!

FYI MV Agusta is on the other/east side of the lake Varese in Schiranna , SWM (ex Husky factory where the TE450 was built) is in Biandronno. they are about a 15 minute drive apart 7.5 minutes if you drive like an Italian.

MV Agusta plant is on the location right next to the lake on the site of the Aermacchi aircraft plant, where they would roll out their racing seaplanes straight into the lake.

All this from the Italian moto historian

PS I rechecked my spec purchase..... BN are Nitrile, the V series o rings are dupont viton well lets see how long these go!! if future problems occur we will try another material

I wanted to see if you had your problem solved as I had the same problem on a ride this weekend while going up to Idyllwild. Reservoir was dry and so I filled it with mineral oil. I was looking to purchase the 7602 piston kit with x-rings.
