  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Stalling during downhills (float height?)

So I've got my carb off to replace my torn intake boot and remembered that while doing downhills I stall. Kind of a pain with a rekluse. Is the float height too high? Should I have the float sit deeper in the bowl?

Maybe the rekluse is the issue, fractionally locking up enough to stall the bike?

Does the bike idle when stop for a period of time or cut out? Idle well at sea level but cut out when at a higher level?

It seems the idle may be too low for the z-start pro. I dropped the float level a bit. Rode with a little bit of an issue but I still have to try some alternate options to make it perfect.

You running the Mikuni on the bike still?
I'd maybe raise the idle up a little and check it with the rekluse in gear...dunno Joe don't have a rekluse but those that l know have (on 2t's) tend to raise the idle up a little then adjust their rekluse.

Usually if the bike stalls going down a hill on a 2t, it's due to the rear locking up or engine idle is too low(clutch in)...but hey, l just find neutral, concentrate on the braking and occasionally blip the throttle to make sure the motor's still going or bump start it close to the end of the downhill?

Yeah Mikuni. It's been an issue ever since I installed the Rekluse. Except when the air boot was leaking. It was fine with a high idle. Maybe that's all I need, a higher idle.

Ok, so a plug for the lectron? Since installing the lectron on my bike it idles like a four stroke. I'm still in the habit of occasionally blipping the throttle on long down hill sections also to make sure the engine is still running. Funny how the old habits hang around. I don't know that any of my prior two strokes would idle for very long. I let my 360 idle for ~ 20 minute just to see if it would load up and die. It just idled away... So, lectron plug it is!

Yup. Turn up your idle a little. That should cure it. I have ZSP in my '11 wr 300 with a PWK AS2 and I have to mess with the idle occasionally if it stalls depending on air temperature and humidity. I replaced the plastic idle screw with an aluminum screw from JD to make quick adjustments with my fingers. My bike doesn't start as easily when cold with the ZSP for some strange reason, but once warm it only needs one kick. Tolerable. Good luck.
