• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Something to watch out for: Cracked Ignition Cover

I recently put my bike on on a stand to do linkage and swingarm maintenance. About 10 mins into the process, I noticed a puddle on the concrete. Upon inspection, I found that it was a puddle of oil. I use a Hyde Racing skidpan and apparently the oil had collected in there. When I placed the bike on the stand, the skidpan shape was changed enough to allow the puddle to drain out the hole in the skidpan. So I took it off, and started to look around for the leak.... it took me a while to find it.

Apparently at some point, the shift lever was jammed into the ignition cover causing it to crack and leak. Actually more of a slow seep than a leak. Was really hard to find.

I thought I'd post this in hopes of it helping someone else out.

Happy Trails!

Yep, seen that a ton of times. Doesn't take much. Most likely a small spill you don't even remember. Shifter landed on a rock and put all that force in one tiny area.

Yeah, in these pics, it looks really obvious, but on the bike, I never even saw the crack. I just saw the shifter impact point and for lack of anything else, figured that was it. When I took it off, I noticed the crack. again, you'd think it would have been obvious... but b/c of it's position, the shift lever, etc, it wasn't.... so y'all keep your eyes peeled! :)

Man... if I just knew someone who made billet ignition covers.....

I hope I can convince my wife that JB Weld just isn't a good solution here... especially since you have that lingering grey one that's just calling my name.

That's gonna be tough to convince her of that. Clean it up really well and JB will keep that thing from leaking no problem. At least until a rock, your shifter and that cover have another 3 some.
