• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So, what do you think...

...a 630SMS would look like with an Aprilia SXV style under-tail exhaust? I've got other projects, but the creative juices are flowing and I'll have the TIG back soon...

I kinda like this Arrow setup. Might not be as free-flowing as my gutted stock cans, but the midpipe and Ys are the restriction now anyway. Of course, I could always build a whole system...

That would be a fun project to build. Plus super-cool when done. I say go for it! That square muffler looks the easiest to fab and far cleaner and custom that putting a large round can under the fender. Cam.

Plus the SMS doesn't get the tire all the way up into the well like the TE might. I would first pull the rear spring and see just how high the tire COULD get to make sure and leave clearance. There's a nice little pocket in there for some muffler volume, but I would have to make sure and insulate it well from the plastics under the tail...

Would also have to do something about the gaping areas under the side plastics once the mufflers are gone as well... maybe some composite panels that follow the profile.

I like it. BTW Tim Troffers Aprilia with aftermarket exhaust was the single best sounding bike I have ever ridden. Was heaven.

Not for me! I once killed an underslung zorst on rocks. The only place for it is as far from the ground as can be managed. That´s why KT´s etc are café racers (for parking outside the local biker´s meeting hole on a Sunday afternoon).

That's why I would check the limit of travel first, and remember, I'm not going bouldering on my SMS ;P

If you kept the box construction fairly simple you might be able to make it a double wall on the back side for heat isolation. Could even stuff the gap between the inner and outer boxes with some heat insulating material, essentially a non-asbestos form of asbestos. Or pour in some type of 2-part curing material that has heat shedding properties. The outside wall could also be an external add on made out of 2 or 3 separate pieces like a heat shield. Just some ideas. Cam.

Yeah, I was thinking about an inch gap to any plastic, with some formed muffler shielding riveted on. Everything facing back would be bare. I would try to get some packing in there and keep it fairly flow-through....
