• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So othought i would jump in and see what this BMW thing as all about...

Well really i was just looking for a comfortable replacement for my superhawk that will go further than 120 miles a tank. So i picked this up and have a buyer for my superhawk. She is real comfy, will go 250-300 miles on a tank. Has the factory hard bags as well. Not as fun / entertaining as the super hawk but will be a lot more fun after the 100 mile mark when the superhawk became uncomfortable and started running low on fuel. Will do many 200-300 mile day trips on this this summer I am sure.

One stoplight from my house is endless country into the Cascade mountains. No shortage of good ride destinations. I ride my superhawk a lot in the evenings but this will get more long mileage use.

Nice! Make sure it's been split and had a spline lube sometime recently. The shaft drive, isn't no maintenance, just put off to a later date.

AAAARRRGH! You streeters are killing me! I've been jonesin' for a street bike for about 3 years and have been convincing myself it's unsafe...

Thanks Kelly. Now I have the urge again! :banghead::doh::D

Yep she looks like a well maintained bike.

the picture does it a lot of justice. It is clean but used for sure. Dry looking. Seen some sun. But overall quite nice. Heading out to clear my head right now.

:D

Looks nice, Kelly! I say leave the splines unlubed. Of course, I have never heard of lubing splines on BMW K bikes, or any other bike before. Oh, and I know nothing about these bikes, either, or their known issues or recommended maintenance, but I just thought I'd throw a dissenting, uninformed internet opinion in there! Keeps the thread balanced, you know.

Here's my recent little street acquisition, if you don't mind me chiming in. Sorry for the crap pic quality.

Kelly,

Bet you won't be disappointed in the comfort and smoothness of that old girl. Lots of group rides I've been on have BMW's mixed in and they never want to stop for gas or to stretch out because the bikes are made to cover some ground without driving the operator insane. Keep us posted!

You want a nimble little streetfighter, check out Triumph's street triple. 675cc and will lift the wheel in the merge lane.......in 2nd and 3rd.

Better get some ear plugs, that kettle whistle like fuel pump used to get on my nerves.

Compared to my V&H equipped superhawk this thing is whisper quiet. Put 110 miles on her last night. Nice bike. Needs new tires as they are mismatched and worn out and the handling is funky. Other than that the bike is real nice. The handlebars could be wider and taller for me. Like it so far. A lot slower than the superhawk and not as fun but much more civilized and comfortable.

I had a CBR600- Ultimately decided I need to stay where there are trees and tight trails- I sold it. I am used to going as fast as I can manover through the trails. So on pavement I did not have enough restraint to be legal or safe. I don't know how anyone rides a crotchrocket or any streetbike at legal speeds. Its like Sammy Hagar said "when I drive that slow- you know... its hard to steer!...." and within a very short period of time I was doing clutch wheelies and Stoppies on a bike that I had no real experience on.... I think they call that instaSquid:D but every once in a while... I'd like to have one again.

I get my speed on on the trails and ride pretty tame on the street with three kids and all. I like to wick it up some but am a pretty conservative street rider. I also avoid all traffic i can and ride in the mountains a lot.

Most my street rides look somthing like this...
