• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SMS 630 Airbox question

B*astards followed way behind in an unmarked car. Nabbed me. 180 km/h where 80 was the limit. Got a very wily legal hound but think I might have to get some walking boots for a month. `Twill give time to take a long look at setting valves etc. etc. etc. They stated that they were prepared to be lenient and not overcharge on the km/h on the basis of my great age (getting on for 80). So that´s the story.

180km/h is ~110mph, which is the max I've hit on my SMS... Sounds like the Arrows will get it moving, too!

I hope I am still twisting the ear of my Husky like that when I am getting up to your years of experience (am already a half centurion but dip my cap to you mate!) :D

German law makes it obligatory for Bio Ethanol to be available. But ... at an exorbitant price, a so-called "racing" fuel is also available at most pumps here. As I don´t intend to leave even a fluid ounce of fossil fuel on this earth when I´m gone, I use up as much as I can of the most expensive fuel available.

I am interested in the pics of the 630 airbox -standard it definately seems more restricted than the standard 610 one ... that snorkel intake area is really small compared to the meshed 610 openings. Re the questions around K&N pods = it has been done but due to the close proximity of the frame the pod needs to be dented in to fit. I want to have a look at a possible system that may route the intake via a tube to a pod up under the seat or near battery box.

A fossil has spoken :p

The fossil opened its 630 airbox after finding the obligatory black smudge mark on the air filter just where the snorkel let the air in. All the rest of the foam filter was clean, showing how restricive the snorkel really is. It now lets air in through the snorkel AND the EHS membrane filter. Extra air adjusted for with the JD tuner. Just one minor quibble: I installed the EHS frame with the bike on its stand. Just wish I´d installed it at a different angle. Would have looked much better. And I still haven´t ordered those button bolts for the frame from pro-bolt.

Using Uni filter you can bend it around the frame, seems to work fine.

Interesting as I was thinking of Unifiter as there are a wide variety of pods etc. and they are the best around IMHO (the Ozzies know about dust!) While this setup is great for SM use I am looking to route mine up near the battery on my 610 - probably replacing the battery with a smaller Ballistic or Unibatt

I´d prefer a K&N type pod. But if it really is much too loud, I´d have to abstain.

Hearing must still be good :p Problem with the K&N as I understand is that you have to mash it badly to fit! (there is a pic somewhere of one fitted)

Uni makes a 15 degree angled pod that I think would work well, I used a regular 0 angle pod, but it's very flexible and had no issue forming around the frame. No modifications required.

2.5" inlet fit on 630 throttle body.
