  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SMR 510, 2008, pump replacing & valve adjustment HOW TO!?

NIKEFIR

Husqvarna
A Class
Hello everyone!
I decided to change the water pump seal on it. When I pulled the pump shaft and pulled out another pump. Gear on which hangs a chain fell down a few centimeters. Valve cover I have not been removed.
As I understand I need to remove the valve cover and expose the right gear. Accordingly, it will be necessary to adjust the valves.
Who knows how to set the gear chain, set the camshafts and valves to regulate?
P. S.: My moto - smr 510, 2008.
P. P. S.: I'm sorry for my english if that)

It will be very difficult to find Top Dead Center (TDC) now that the cam gear and cams have had the tension removed from them by removing the water pump shaft.

Don't rotate the engine.

Remove the ACCT.

Remove the red valve cover.

Look to see if you can see the double dimple on the cam gear, stand on the right side of the bike and look at the cam gear between the 2 cams.

If I understand correctly I need to do the following:
1) Remove the valve cover
2) remove the ACCT
3) Find two points on the gear that goes from the pump shaft and align with the line on the head unit
4) Remove the candle and check if exposed DVN
5) set the camshafts so that the points on the outer sides of the gears are on the level of the cylinder head
6) to fix both the shaft and the pump
Right? Or am I mistaken?

Do not move anything in the cam area until you see how close it is to TDC. Both the crankshaft AND the cams HAVE TO BE at TDC TOGETHER or you are screwed.

If the double dimple mark on the gear is visible, then the crankshaft is close to TDC and you will be able to put the bike in 5th gear and nudge the rear wheel either back or forward to get the crankshaft at TDC. THEN you can position the camshafts to point up and inwards a little and then reinstall the water pump shaft thru the gear.

If you just start re-positioning the cams and then start turning the engine over to bring the piston up to TDC, you could collide the piston and valves.

All right.
Let's imagine that I made out the head unit and do not remember the assembly back.
Can you write step by step instructions for assembling the cylinder head?
I need to understand the following:
1) How can I combine a double mark on the gear (which hangs on the timing chain) with the line on the head unit?
2) how can I combine combine TDC and what is written above (paragraph 1)?
3) how can I set rspredelitelny shafts relative to TDC and gears on which hangs a timing chain?
4) in what order should I measure the gaps on the valves?
