  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SM510R Dying out when braking hard

Peder Moe

Husqvarna
C Class
I got a sm510r 2010 and after i have used around 1,5-2l petrol the bike start dying out when i brake. The bike has been like this ever since I got it. The sensor for my reserve was broken off so i soldered it back on. When that didn't work i tried to bypass it with no success. I thought maybe it for some reason when the petrol ran away from the pump it shut off immediately resulting in the bike dying out. So i bought some off those foam pieces they use in cross and supermotard races to hold the petrol in place while braking and turning. I thought at first i gained a few km of driving before the problem started, but it was just my imagination.

Do anyone know what the problem is? I want to fix this before the summer fully kicks in. I am really tired of only being able to drive 40km/25miles before i need refueling...

The sensor is just for the low fuel light, there is no real reserve on that bike.

The pump won't shut off simply because there's no fuel, the pump will run, if the bike is running.

Never really heard of your problem, I have heard of maybe a guy was running out of fuel to the pump on long downhills, but not just braking.

So, if you have a completely full tank, and you do a hard stop, the bike does not die?

When the tank is completely full it wont stop. It is first when i have used some fuel i get this problem. When i brake and hear the bike dying i can release the brake and it will come back to life.

To mee that sound soo weard also.....It happened to me once when i have about 1l left, bike stall then it will shut of, but will start again, this happen to mee once, becouse i have that black hood on my gas pump to keep debris out of the pump. But if you have same black hood around the gas tank, so I would not be surprised that goes off under heavy braking then when the fuel is running out.
But that amount to 1.5-2l is left and it shut off sounds weird. Ok, if you have those foam in the tank and it shut off when hard braking and gas is low....Only 40km then need refuel??

Me get about 5-6l about 115km and a have more CC that stock engine has

It is not when i have 1,5-2l left, but when i have USED 1,5-2l so i have about 5-6l left in the tank when the problem starts.
I dont got any black hood around the pump, i got the fuel filter and some sort of mesh to keep debris away.

My idle speed is steady at around 2000-2200rpm. No problems what so ever except that it stops when im braking.
I read that post and it sounds like they got the same problem as me. I will check if it is the pump that is causing my problems tomorrow!

The high pressure pump{ in thetank} slides up in the plastic sleeve.add a couple more zip ties to hold it more securely in place and limit it from moving up

COMMON ISSUE on most early fi huskys
always happens under braking as pump i in rear of tank

My 250 had a similar fault, when going downhill (fuel running away from the pump same as hard braking) the engine would die. The fuel pump had slipped out of its mounting, easy fix but don't bother with zip ties to hold it in place as they tend to soften and lose their grip when submerged in fuel, use a steel clip, we call them jubilee clips, and the problem will be solved.

Happened to me on 2 different husks. Take the pump out and zip tie or safety wire the heck out of it in the plastic sleeve its attached to. 90% that's the problem.
