    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

SM wheel swap set for TE -- A few questions

I've bought a set of stock Husky SM wheels (3.50 & 4.25X17). The plan is to be able to swap between the sets for full-on street & dual-sport biased toward primarily dirt riding.

First, I need a front break solution. I've heard good and bad about using the TE rotor. Does anybody have experience with any of the big rotor conversion packages available (Braking, EBC, etc)?

Also, will I need a different kick-stand? Anything else?
 
I'm not sure about the kick stand but the front caliper should be fine with a larger rotor. If you were racing often an upgrade would really be a nice luxury. I would look up epic motorsports in Colorado. Their website isn't very great but the customer service is great! They are a very big part of Colorado supermoto racing.

The 2011 630 Smr kick stand works perfect. You don't need the big rotor for street ridding,
Unless you like to do stoppies ??? I race My TE/TXC/SMR 250, so I bought the TC front and rear fender (shaved the front to a SM). Moto Plastics USA.

Ok, I see you have the TE fork base and TE caliper right? Were did you get your caliper relocation bracket I see? Did you make it? I have a 09 TE510 and bought a set of Husky SM rims with the awesome front rotor almost two years go!! Havent even put them on yet because I couldnt find that solution and I heard that the TE rotor had different bolt size than SM. Any info on that would be really great!! Thanks

That looks like the EBC rotor on his bike. EBC sells the rotor & caliper bracket as a package. They sell the caliper relocator by itself too. Try Motostrano. They list several.
 
could you explain how you got the sliders n the axles - my te510 has those pins in the sliders and the allen key grub screw on the brake side

Pictures would help. I know some axles have a pull pin welded to them, that would have to be removed.

Yup, that is what is what I thought you had. Not sure what Husky calls it. The pin makes it easy to pull the axle by hand in the field is my best guess ???

It also makes it easy to hang the axle up while fixing a flat in the field. I hook mine on the pegs. Set a greasy axle down on dirt, and you have a mess to clean up before the axle can go bake in the wheel.
 
My next question is tyre width fit

Is there any difference between the sm and the te swing arm internal width/clearance ( I know there is a difference in length )

I am trying to ascertain if a 160 tyre on the 5 inch rear rim will have any chain rub on the tyre / rim combo

From what I understand, the tire (that tyre to you) will rub the chain if you use a 160. I heard of guys lacing the wheel so the rim is slightly to the right, but I think that would cause handling issues. A guy in So Cal that races told me to stay with the 150 for best results. The Contiforce SM 150X17 on a 4.25 rim clears the chain by 5 or 6mm, so assuming that 150mm & 160mm are accurate measurements, then the 160 should work on the 4.25. The 5" rim may push the sidewall out enough to make contact.

In any case, the 150 looks good. Here's my TE with the 150 on it. I'm still waiting for the proper front rotor bolts. They should be here tomorrow. I can't wait to scuff the rubber!

160 fits just fine. The chain rivet ends just barely touch the edge of the tread.

It's kind of a bitch getting it in and out for service, though. Gotta shove it past the chain guide bolts (or take the chain guide off, easier with the TM Designs chain guide than the OEM).

The SM and TE front hub is the same except that the SM hub has larger (8mm?) screws than the TE (6mm?). You cannot use the SM front rotor on a TE unless you change the front triple clamps and axle which are wider on the SM. The SM caliper bolts are a larger 10mm diameter too which means the lower fork leg is different too.

You CAN use a TE front caliper and a stock or oversize rotor on the SM front wheel provided you drill out the rotor mounting holes to use the SMs larger screws....got it?
