    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hi all, stand by for a stupid question.....
I took my WR250 (2004) engine apart a little while ago for a top end rebuild.
Like a fool, I didn't take any photo's before I dismantled things, assuming all was pretty obvious.
However, when my new piston arrived a couple of weeks later, I realised it doesn't have any marking on it, so now I'm not sure which way round it should go.
As those who have rebuilt these engines know, there's a cut-out on the the skirt, so my question is, should that cut-out face towards the inlet or outlet ports ?

Thanks for that, the confirmation is much appreciated ! I was pretty certain I'd put it back together the right way round, but have been really struggling to understand why the engine had no power since I rebuilt it.
It would start OK, but bog down in the mid range.
Again, my own fault, I made a bunch of changes and have been chasing my own tail ever since trying to work it out.
Much of what I read suggested it was likely down to carb set up, but that was one of the few things I'd not really touched !
Hence I finally started to wonder if I'd done something really stupid when putting the engine back together.

Anyway, before getting my computer out this evening, I headed out into the garage and decided to put the old, rusted,bent & holed exhaust back on. I'd replaced this with one off an '05 Husky as the only one I could find cheap at the time. Anyway, it turn out the bike runs fine (relatively) with the old exhaust on. Blowing through the '05 one it seems much more restricted, so I'm guessing it may have a cat in it?
Who knows, but I now need to a decent '04 exhaust it seems.
 
Try fmf they do a bunch of sexy pipes, pro circut or doma may do one for your bike, could be different expansion profiles causing rich running.
 
Sadly the new exhaust route is not a cheap option in the UK, especially when the bike was a cheap 2nd hand buy.
May have to go that way though since replacement 2nd hand exhausts are in short supply too.
 
I too am in the uk i have a fmf gnarly in mine, bought from racespec.
No not many things husky are cheap, go jap for that my friend.
 
Yup, you may be able to get a ktm pipe some on here use the 200 pipe on their 165's
If you do find a 250 ktm pipeit may need atouch of fettling to fit in the frame and beneath your shock resivour,and some tabs may need to be welded on for mount locations.
 
suss out a pipe repairer. there's bag loads of them. ive mashed pipes to where the bike will not run. Finish Line, PCPR, RPS Motorsports etc can do the trick.

Finish Line did the best work in the day IMO. they also do a bang on job of decoking them. not sure if they sill exist.

Thanks guys, looks like I have some options there.
Been suggested I could take the restriction out of the '05 pipe I have, so I may have a go at that.

I think that is what I'll end up doing. Not quite sure where it'll need cutting though.
I performed an unscientific test by dropping a plumb weight down each end of the pipe, from which it would seem to be restricted at each end of the expansion chamber.
May have to defer to a professional, not sure I trust my own welding ability.
