    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Sight glass question

I am aware I should check the oil level at vertical position. But should I see SOME oil in the sight glass when the bike is on the kickstand? While on the kickstand, I am not sure I see anything at all.

But... The sight glass appears foggy, cloudy. Like if you huffed on your visor or your gf was blabbing for 10 minutes in your truck without the vents open. I hope this is not a sign of water in my system or something? Or is this maybe just normal for this cool Philadelphia fall weather? I have not had a bike with a sight glass prior to my 630 so if this is a DERP question from a newb, apologies.

`Tis a very CLEVER design. You only see the correct oil level with the bike in the upright position. This means leveling the bike while standing on the right hand side. This then lets the side stand retract, leaving you holding the bike, unable to lower the stand. So I only do it with someone to help lowering the stand; or with the bike on a bike stand.
 
Something must be up with my sidestand. it does not retract on its own like I hear about on here. Not that I am complaining.
 
There is a mod to stop the side stand from auto retracting. (Think it involves cutting the head of the bolt)

Not sure if the 630 is the same as a 610 but there looks to be two sight glasses.
The top one is where the kick start was fitted to the older bikes.
The bottom one is the actual oil level sight glass.
As Organ Donor correctly states that the level can only be checked when the bike is in a vertical position.
I also find if the bike is completely stone cold the oil doesn't flow to the sight glass very well. Think the manual states that the bike should be run for a bit then turned off for a couple of minutes and then check the level.
(I think that's a bit backwards, if the level was low you could damage the engine and only way to check is by running the engine. Go Figure)

You can expect to see some condensation in the bikes oil if the temperature drops and there is moisture in the air.
My other bikes used to do it too (Jap Sports)
If you think you have water in the oil, one way to check is drop the oil into a container and check for separation.
 
There is no top sight glass, it's a freeze plug blocking off the kick-start hole.
 
Be aware, you have to wait ~2 minutes for the oil level to rise to its full amount in the sight glass after you stand the bike up. This will trick you into overfilling the bike if not careful.
