  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Okay i know this is going to be a no no for the true husky fans out there but i have a chance to trade my husky (2002 wr 250) for a 2001 kx 500 or a 1997 or older cr 500 , has anyone had any experiences with them ? I mostly do trail ridding and i know there not great for trails but i still wanna own one of these beats.IMG_1494.JPG 3I13L13H75N85Ie5Gfd2j784f06e9773f1c4e.jpg3K33Jc3N85La5E15K4d2p632d1102eb011eaf.jpg

I had a CR 500 and was a blast to ride on MX tracks but sucked on the trails. I do like tight single track and is the reason it didn't work for me. Now I did ride with a pro flat tracker one time in the woods and he rode a CR500 like a 250 but he was also use to fighting a Harley 750 all the time.

NO.

do NOT trade a hard enduro specialist like the WR for a dime a dozen MX bike! why you ask?

CR500- bogus suspension, fouls plugs, needs a 2-ton flywheel, thicker HG, tons of other crap for any kinda east coast work tighter than a prepped MX track. that's the short list! ask me how i know!

KX500- tank steering, good engine, still loads up, suspension fixeable, frame is a wet freakin noodle- actually helps in the roots, they are dated and old and dime a dozen...good dez bike, if you like paint shakers. bring another set of hands. id do this one over the CR500 for woods in a heartbeat. still. find someone that knows how to make it work or you'll beat your head against the side of the garage in frustration.

that bottom pic looks like a seriously abused RM of some sort! barfola!

okay, thanks for the feedback I was just thinking about doing it (calm down) btw i was going to convert it to af if i were to get it .... but I think im going to stay with my wr ****************************************!!

keep the WR, AND, find a clapped out 500 ya like for cheap and do a ground-up project on it....
for several reasons.
one- it'll be clapped out.
two- it will need a ton of work to make it woods freindly. so whats the point of getting a really nice one since it's coming apart for mods.

get one on the cheap and work your way into the project a little at a time trading and selling and upgrading. when its done its fresh and ready to rip.

yea, sure you an "get by" with a stock one but, unless yer Super Hunky or Hulk Hogan it aint gona be much fun fouling plugs overheating and bouncing off trees.

CR500 on a trail? do you have a death wish?:p

before you know you are just like flag hanging on and one mishap it is a lot of power that will hurt you

CR 500 with super motar wheels (that is really bad ass):D

tough one... not , stay with husky not cus we are bias but its a freaking good mixed surface bike, ive had the joyus horror of ridint a cr500 and its is a rush but its like a baby when it starts to get hard work just give it back to the rightful owner.

give them both a ride and make your mind up, the cr 500 supermoto is a mental bike but stay with 250 wr imo

p.s. i know not of the kawasaki but its long in the tooth now and buying one or swapping one for a bike you know is a bad idea..

I rode a CR500 on the trails but it was a Husky, it worked well, one of my brothers had a KX500 and did not care for it's trail capability, a friend had a CR500 Honda and it was hard to keep up with my Husky
put a 300 top end on yours if you want more power or buy a 360 mine works great and is easy to ride on tight trails

I thought about buying a new honda cr500 back in 2001 for trail use but I decided my arms were already long enough and I didn't need stains in my shorts:lol:! Great bikes for open spaces and hill-climbs but too much for in the bush IMHO.
