  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Last year I had a 08 KTM XCW250 2 stoke I sold It and now I want to get another. But not sure on what to get. I heard a lot about tne Te250 plus I need to get it titled which is nice because here in NJ DMV will not title a bike that said not for highway use on it. So i'm looking at a Yamaha 09 WR250F didn't like it, now i'm thinking about another KTM xcw250f but did not really like my first one. I am a B rider and I ride extreme rocky trails and some serious uphill climbing, can this bike handle it? I have a good deal on a 2010 Te250 or should i go with a KTM? your honest help would very much appreciated.

With my very little time on my 2011 TE 250 I think itll handle it. Atleast as good as any other 250- with some fine tuning to suite your needs. Curious why you didn't like the 09 WR250F?? I had a 07 WR250F that was a phenomenal bike. If it wasnt for its lac of FI, and plate, I wouldent have ever sold it. Its pretty sad stock but with several "free mods" its a great bike.

if you do lots of rocky trails and very serious uphill climbs i think you will not acheve the best on the 2010 te250 ...te250 it is one of the best 250f bikes on the market great bike light and good in single track but lacks a bit of low down torque i had a 2010 te250 and boy it was a great bike an it just lacked a bit of low down torque and this is the ONLY reason i went to a 2011 te310

so what im saying the 250 will do it but a 310 will do it better

Scott. I only have one advice to give you: Try the Te250 before you buy one.

Like you, I ride gnarly stuff. Last year, I bougth a '10 TE250 because it was platable and I beleived it could be the perfect replacement for my '08 250xcw. Wrong.... The TE250 just doesn't have the tractor pull the 250xcw has in the gnarly stuff and does feel a bit heavier. Suspension and handling is suberb, however, the TE wants and needs to be kept up high in the revs. I didn't like that. Sold it. The TE310 and KTM350exc could be good options for you.

Good luck.

So that was why i was having trouble getting up those hills ..
They can have issues starting when hot - I got stuck on a hill , gets hot and it wouldnt turn over - kick started ok
It will probably not suit you

For starters, 4t machines are not 2t machines ... Second, 250 4t are not 250 2t machines ... If you have never ridden a 4t, you should before even considering purchasing one ... They are very good machines at what they do, but, again, they are not 2t machines ... They are more like a street bike with a very good suspension for dirt ...

I've never saw a hill my 08 TXC250 would not climb ... The rider has hills he cannot climb, but its not a bike issue ...

I needed a street legal off road bike; something light and more dirt than street.
So….I sold the KTM 250 XC-W and bought the TE-250. The Husky is not as good as the KTM in so many ways however it is about the only option out there. As mentioned above, a 4T will never perform like a 2T. I Really like the KTM wide ratio gearing & light weight, plus 2-stroke power-band. Ah.....life is full of compromise.
With a few aftermarket up-grades to address your specific wants, the Husky is the best thing on the market right now.

Thanks for the replies guys, but i brought a 2011 te250 I put a fmf pipe and power commander on, remap it 5% richer @ 0 to 2% throttle opening and at 500 to 1700rpms. Now it has good drivability and more low end torque plus saved five lbs over stock pipe, this bike is very light. But if I had to do it over again, it would be the te310 just didn't have the money at the time. Now I just need more people to ride with.

Hard to believe there is that much difference in between a 250 and a 310. Especially after the JD kit goes on. Also since they are essentially the same engine couldn't one just bore the 250 if the extra few horses were needed?
