  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Should I buy a new 09 TXC 450 for V to R?

So....last year we attempted the Vegas to Reno race, the key word attempted. Our XR650R blew up at mile 229. A lot of time and money was invested. We have been looking for a new race bike for this years race. I have found a new 2009 TXC 450 for $3300 OTD. I cant buy a used low mile CRFX for that. My racing partner has an fully setup 09 TXC 300 that we would take skid plate, damper,IMS tank etc... Another bonus is we would have spares. All we would need to do is get the suspension revalved by ZipTy. Haven't seen very many, or should say , I haven't seen a Husky at any of the long distance BITD races we've done. What do you guys think, should I pull the trigger and buy the bike or keep looking for a CRFX? It would look good in the garage next to my new 2013 TXC 310 that arrives Thursday!!

Love that big block motor, holds close to 2 quarts of oil, I have 14,000 miles on my TE450.

""Before we got the radiator guards from Flatland Racing we crash-damaged radiators that then lost all coolant. Both times the engines finished three-hour events while air-cooled only for an unknown period of time. ""

Ask me how I know this is true.......

Although experimental, I have seen someone put more than two quarts of oil in the 449. I run 1.5 quarts of oil in mine. I know, when you sold your 449 I was like.. but.. but.. wait! And then you talked to Ty. haha. I did fix the TL though and it was just raced in the Mexican 1000, no problems. It would had been a great racer for some of your races. I have a KTM 525 that we raced and won BITD on, that's also a great bike for desert racing. If you need an oil cooler setup for your MY09 TXC, I am sure I can help you out with that. :)

Talked to Ty today about your MY09 450 and racing it long distance. He said you will need our racing timing chain mod to prevent chain breakage. Said there were options available, best to contact him. :)

Holy cow that was a smoking deal! I had the 09 TXC510 and sold it like a fool. If you wouldn't have picked that up I sure would have. Congrats and good luck in the race .

you will want a few simple but necessary mods, an up-tite alum y for the cooling system, carb vent filters from up-tite too. zip-ty oil filter magnetic covers, magnetic drain plugs. disc protectors from zip-ty. .. that's my .02 a great buy, you can't go wrong with that bike...

Just completed the Baja 500 on my 09 TXC510. prerunned for 4 days and ran the race. Not 1 hiccup or issue. Have Ty do the suspension. You will not be disapointed
I used a motosportz stator and VR. Ty went thru my motor and did his magic for reliability. I did not need it any faster.

Spoke with Ty already. Suspension is going to him for revalve. Ty said he will use his personal Hare and Hound settings for suspension. We are nowhere near his speed but he said it should work. Trying to find upgraded impeller for bike. Will tear bike down and grease everything and address known issues with bike. Will go thru a couple tubes of Loctice also. We will race a couple 2 hour high desert races out here in July and August to shake down bike and make adjustments. Plan on running Dunlop MX71's front and rear for race. Moouse in front an UHD rear tube. Im thinking a JD jetting kit or if you guys have recommended jetting changes on the cheap I can try.

Fastdaddy what gearing are you running? What about tires? Is stock chain good for 550 miles of high speed running?
