I've been in the process of building out my shop. What kind of ideas and cool stuff have you guys done? I'm waiting on some cabinets and working on getting all my stuff moved back in.

Hi everyone,
As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

That looks like one hell of a man cave you got going there. A vice mounted on a steel pedestal anchored to the floor would be a good addition. I found a good piece of Berber carpet is a good addition. You don't have to worry about parts rolling away or getting dinged up on the pavement when your removing stuff. Plus it's a little nicer on the knees.

There is a fridge if you look carefully. Still working on the wall art though.
I'm going to make a steel bench on one end with a vice and grinder mounted. On the other end is going to be custom lower and upper cabinets. Still need to get the rest of my tools and a few other things in too. Thinking about getting a parts washer.

No need to be sorry. My wife told me years ago that she can't find anything in my garage when it's cluttered. I said perfect, now I know how to keep you out of my man cave.

My two bay garage is attached to the house and there is an overhead door between the garage and the shop area in the basement.
A cleanup day... Everything rolled out of the garage for a good cleaning...
The dark area to the right inside the garage is the overhead into the basement...
A fairly empty garage...
Everything back in...
Reverse angle... here you can see into the basement shop area...

Always. Gives me a good reason to hang out in the garage. The house is hers to do what she wants. She gave me a similar idea years ago when I bought a dirt bike. She said " I don't know why you bought that, it's not like your going to go riding that often" . Silly mistake on her part. That gave me reasons to go riding right there.

Back in my automotive days, we had a "Unit Shop"... essentially a clean room where engines, transmissions, etc. that required extreme cleanliness to assemble were built. NOTHING went into that area without being spotless. We disassembled, cleaned and did preliminary inspection out in the main shop area and only brought parts in that had been cleaned and were ready for final inspection and measuring for specs.
I modeled my set up after that idea but I'm not as strict, although I try to keep the shop as clean as possible. Out in the garage, anything goes it is a storage and staging area and a place routine maintenance.

Progress is slow. I'm waiting on the cabinet guy to finish so I can move the rest of my tools in and fabricate a steel bench. I think I'm going to go with some slat board on some of the wall and do some wire mesh shelving in a few other places. The shop is plumbed for air now too.
