  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

She's coming apart!

I finally got some time to work on my bikes, and the Husky is first. I pulled the motor last night and will pull the head and such today. It locks up completely on the kick starter and the tranny (wheel), but when you put into gear and rolled it backwards it seems to free up. You can then push the kick starter down. There is compression, the valves are intacked (at first glance), But I am sure the piston is touching the spark plug since it pushes the igniter in. Nothing came out of the oil (little pieces of metal). I am thinking the issue might be at the connecting rod or maybe even the crank. Feel free to throw some ideas over.

What year is the bike? Are you just racing this bike on the track?

Sounds like you might have gotten lucky in some manner and not banged the piston on a valve or worst ...

Previous owner raced it. I use it for trail riding. It is a 2009. Il will shoot the verdict over as soon as it is opend up.

Can you add some pics of the head \ valves also? I gotta go into my bike some day and having some reference point of what a set of valves should or should look like will be a big help to me ...

Probably the crank bearings. Mine did the same. My post is kinda late so what did you find?

Seeing as you're probably going to split the case, best bet is to replace all the bearings and get a new conrod kit as well. May as well do it. As it was raced, there's no point in repairing the top end without overhauling the bottom end as well. And, if you're going for a cylinder, why not do the 530 kit.

you know - its because of guys like you that I am always broke! I love your idea with the 530 kit, and it does make sense to do all the bearings while I am knee deep in the rebuild. good feedback bro......now where do I find the 530 kit!?
