• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Service / prep / parts for a long trip?

Taking my 2008 610 TE on a long trip, dirt and road in NZ. I had the valve clearances checked and the bike serviced (its at 6,000 miles now). I'm probably going to get the cam chain replaced now rather than have it go on the road. Any other suggestions for things to do now or parts to take with me?

Spoke to Dan @ MotoXotica. Def going to replace my cam chain now before leaving. Dan suggested taking brake pads, headlight bulb, oil filter, air filter.

Oh, and spare sprockets/bolts.

Are you shipping your bike from NY to NZ? Sounds like a heck of a trip and I hope you post up a ride report.

Eric

Definately spare pre-oiled airfilter or cleaner and aerosol oil.
Chain lube. Spare masterlink. At least one spare 21" tube or one of each - tyre levers etc.
Duct tape, cable ties, Leatherman, Credit card. :D

I just did about 1,400 miles of the TAT with mine. Serviced the bike before the trip, she was close to 3,000 miles, timing chain great with 5 clicks. I only carried two spare tubes, tire levers, CO2 inflator, the Husky standard toolkit and a can of Dupont spray chain lube. Bike did not miss a beat, lubed the chain a few times, nothing else. Some terrain was fast riding, a lot of water crossings, deep sand and some pretty technical stuff.
