• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Self sealing tubes

I've been using self sealing inner tubes on my bicycles for years now and always wondered why they haven't been available for motorcycles.

A web search today turned up True Goo. a company marketing just the ticket. I think I'll order a few but won't get around to mounting them for a little while though. Has anyone had any experience with it?

Interesting. I used to use a sealer in my tubes but every one says bad things about sealers so I guess I got led away from the products.

Another alternative is to carry some of the sealant along with a valve core tool and a means of pumping up your tire. If you get a puncture, remove the valve core, add the sealant, inflate the tire and run it to distribute the sealant.

On my bicycles I've used Slime, True Goo, and Tufo's latex sealant. I prefer the Tufo as it seems to seal well up to about 100 psi (well within the pressures most of us use on motos!). I carry 70 ml of the Tufo sealant on moto rides, but I haven't used it yet so I can't say it will definitely work in a motorcycle tire & tube. But it works great on bicycle tubular time trial & road race tires. I've had it hold up to 180 psi, but not consistently.

I buy the Tufo sealant from Bike Tires Direct. Here's a link to the sealant.

The valve tool listed with the sealant is not a Schrader valve tool so it won't work with your moto tubes. it's for Presta valves. If you have to ask, the difference won't make sense. Just trust me - it won't work!
That link is to 50 ml of sealant. That might work for a front tire, but I'd use two for a rear.

If you think moto tires are expensive check out some of the tubular bicycle tires listed there. Gram for gram they make moto tires a bargain!

I've used the Slime inner tubes on my mountain bike and have had good luck with them. They have sealed up some leaks without a problem and I finished the season with same tube.

Yeah, Presta sucks. I finally broke down and bought a separate pump just for Presta and leave my compressor for Schraders.
