  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Seat

I just did my 501 with a recover from Seat Concepts and it's excellent. Easy to do and a bit over $150. If you want an entire seat then check Renazco. I had one of those on my old Husky but it'll be north of $400...not work it to me now that I've done the SC. There are many pictures...check the thread on the 501S.

I'm running the husky power tall seat on my 501 and like it fine. I've done 260 mile days and survived.

I've got the Husky Power Parts wave seat & it's got so much grip only a mad man would sit on it without pants, but at the same time it's really soft & comfortable without sacrificing the racey feel.

Just did the Seat Concepts 7" sport foam and cover last weekend. Used the stock seat pan. I also have the Husky Power parts wave seat and it is very comfortable also, much better than the stock 15" seat.

I also have a 2 tone black and gray gripper seat from the latest model Husaberg catalog and its very good compared to the 15's stock seat and it fits fine. I have used all 3 of them, but haven't really had a chance to ride the Seat Concepts seat for more than a few miles since doing it. So I will try it out this weekend for an extended ride.

The Husky Power parts wave seat is very good, at only $125.00 or so complete its a great bargain.

I have the new Seat Concepts 8" "comfort seat" version on my FE 501S. Sit or stand, works in the woods with no interference and I can ride the bike all day for dual sporting.

Took out the bike for a good ride yesterday with the Seat Concepts 7" seat on the bike and as "decooney" says above, Though mine is the 7" "sport version" sitting or standing it is very comfortable. Much better when sitting down for sure.

Don't think I'll be taking it off anytime soon.

It's also the seat I cut back and rounded off the front of the seatpan about 3/4" to properly fit the seat recess in the 4.1 gallon Acerbis tank I have. Currently using it on the stock tank the fact that the pointed end has been trimmed back is hardly noticeable.

Thread revival time....

Some of you know I have a 2014 FE501 I bought new. Love it, still going strong.

I recently sold my Super Tenere and bought a new 300 xcw. The 300 seems to be pulling the trail duty more and the 501 will now be used primarily for dualsport. The 501 has 4500 miles on it now with around 148 hours. I'm going to install the Acerbis 4.1 and a taller seat. I already have the hard parts Husky tall seat which is just under an inch taller than stock but it's still too short for my particular needs. They call it a tall seat but it's really still banana shaped compared to my KTM extra tall hard parts seat. I want a seat that is flat from front to back. Unfortunately, one doesn't exist so I'm going to make my own. Stay tuned for more.

My plan is to try and use the extra tall foam and cover for a ktm and install it on my Husky seat pan. I'll need to trim the pan at the front to fit the 4.1 tank as well. I'm thinking guts racing but I'm open to suggestions. I called Seat Concepts and they are too busy to do an extra tall one off. Renazco would probably make one in a few months and the cost of a mortgage payment. Decision time

Yes, I have the fastway pegs in the low position. The peg to seat measurement is 22" on my Husky and 23.5" on my 300 xcw with the extra tall factory seat.
My ktm extra tall factory seat is flat from front to back and the husky factory tall is banana shaped and looks like the standard height ktm seat. I'm hoping to build a seat that is flat from front to back which requires more foam and sadly, nobody sells it. I'm hoping using the ktm extra tall foam and cover will do the trick.
I really don't like the banana seats since they tend to make it harder for me to move around as needed and I feel sunk in. I fully understand I am in the minority on this preference due to my long legs and shortish torso(think close pin).

No problem. Thats what i liked about 449/511's. The flat seat and it was a little roomier. Just throwing out something else if you didn't do it. Trimming the seat pan is going to get you what you want to go for it :)
