Since there in not much to say about the race Husky wise I will report on the Walt Smith
Husky 165 race motor we tryed out. This is the closes thing there is to a Husky 200 the bike alot are asking for. This race was to be the first real test by a expert top 15 overall rider.I told my son to go out and have fun and since he had never been to Idaho before just ride his own race.
Well this is what happen we showed up and went riding the day before. The bike worked great no need for a jetting change.Race day he got a great start and was 10th to the end of the 1 mile plus drag race to the bomb and went thur the gates side by side with David Pearson who finished 3 overall and is the current # 2 overall plate holder. He then backed it off and just set a nice pace, by check 1 he was in 12 overall and by check 2 was in 14th overall still way ahead of and one in the 125 class.Cameron told me he spend about 10 miles battleing back inforce with Paul Krause factory KTM who was on a KTM 500.I talked to Paul after the race and asked Paul how the bike looked to him.He stated the bike seemed to work great and was not giving up much to the open class bikes both Paul and my son were battling with.Anyway about mile 40 my son hit a rock in the sand wash went over the bars and knocked himself silly.About 10 min later I showed up and since he was not able to ride we called it a day.Lucky Walt was only 1 mile awy at a pit so he came in and rode the bike out .Bottom line the bike just worked great Cameron told me he just can not beleive the difference between the 125 and the Walt Smith 165.The bike now with a over bore will not rev like a 125 but just change gears and it will pull it.Now the bike is more like a 250 and there in no need to shift all the time.Next race i might just have to try a 125 again .
