  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ripped Throttle Body Boot & Engine Cooling Q's.

I ride a '10 Husky 510 SMR. Any else have this issue? My bike is at just above 3100 miles and she died on me at a light, then wouldn't start. Pushed it to a parking lot and saw this! :O It ripped from every single fastening location. I ride my bike long distances and have a feeling the high engine temps for extended periods of time is what caused the boot to fail. Going to look for some aftermarket solutions but I doubt there are any, so I'll probably be ordering a stock boot to replace it.

Also, I notice my engine/trans cases get extremely hot. I don't know if this is normal, this is my first "street" bike. What do you use in your radiators? Coolant, water, water wetter? Any aftermarket oil coolers for these bikes?

Are you running stock gearing? If so, go up one tooth on the CSS and you'll run cooler, higher speeds with same RPMs. My boot failed as well, but it was my fault, ran the engine with no coolant at all. My replacement boot has been good for 4-5000 miles now.

IMO those boots are a POS, prone to failure, mine failed but was repairable with gasket maker. They fatigue from heat and vibes under normal use. :(

Yes, stock gearing. I just picked up a 16t css that I will be installing when I get the new boot. What do you run in your rads? Just coolant and water? Ever tried water wetter?

Check your FI with I-beat....it may be running lean which makes it run hot.

I have a Power Commander V with Auto Tune. Shouldn't that make the bike run at the optimal afr since it replaces the o2 sensor and draws info from the egt's?
