• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

remember your ignition cleaning

just a reminder, every now and then to remove the stator cover and clean up the ignition flywheel and the stator assy. I do mine Every few months/ oil changes its always dirty with lots of black crud that comes right off with contact cleaner (Maxima is my choice). this cant hurt and in my wild imagination the bike starts and runs better after I clean the ignition system. Its almost like the thing where the bike runs better when shes clean and well lubed;)

What is the proceedure to do this. I have never contemplated it although I have heard/read that some riders do it. Can you step by step me please.

It's not in an oil bath is it? What I mean is I'm not going to lose my 1.5 quart of oil taking the cover off am I? I assume there's just some oil that oozes out when I remove the cover.
Leave the stator in place, and spray it good with contact cleaner and put the cover back on and top off the oil, or is there more to it?

Yes, the stator runs in an oil bath just like the clutch does. Easiest to lay the bike on its right side. Remove the shift lever, then remove the ignition cover. Clean all the expensive looking things once you get it open and re-assemble. Probably a 1/2 to 3/4 beer job.

By looking at these pics I would say it is at least half a case.:D

Just checked out the thread...makes sense now, but since I have a fresh oil change in the bike (anticipating my first spring ride if this snow ever goes away) I'll have to wait until my next oil change. I have over 3,000 miles on it and never did this, so I'll expect a lot of metal shavings....as always thanks for the info gang.

If you lay the bike on it's right side you can clean the ignition and only loose a few drops of oil. I have had my ignition off more times than I care to remember, and this is how I do it.

Sounds good ....I'm in on this at the next oil change

3 changes later, I finally got around to this today and first off I liked the 'fat' gasket on the cover hiding the assembly :) It was a little deceiving at first when I looked at it as it looked clean till I touched it ...U can C by the pics what I mean so be sure and run a clean soft cloth around the inner race to clean it even if it looks clean along with the heads on the stator also ...

The bike cranked right up after this work so apparently I'm still qualified :)

My bike has about ~3000 miles on it currently ....
