  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rekluse Pro/Z-start dilema

420skirider

Husqvarna
A Class
I've finally decided to break down and go for the Rekluse auto clutch. After trolling their website , I found that they only make the Z-start for 250 four strokes. I prefer the Rekluse Pro model because I want the clutch override feature (pulling the clutch in has saved me from tasting tree bark many times).
Does anyone run a Z-start in their 250, and if so, does it have any override at all if you pull the clutch in with the throttle on?
Will the complete 450 clutch assembly fit into a 250 motor?
Isn't it the same motor except for top end?

I'll have to double check my install instructions, but I thought it would fit the 250 if you use a different cover, ie.. their cover or a 450 cover.

I have one I just pulled out and it has several spacers for about 3 different models, if I remember right.

I wrote Rekluse about the availability of a Rekluse clutch for my 2008 TE 250 and received the following reply:
"Sorry, but we do not have anything for the 08 250 four stroke. There are a few differences from the prior years that have not allowed us to make it work. We will continue to work toward getting something done, but there is no ETA at this time. Sorry I can’t give you a better answer at this time and please keep checking our website for future updates on up and coming products".

I presume this applies to both the Z-Start and the Rekluse Pro.

The clutch override still works with the Z-start, but the pull force and feel changes with rpm. Set-up can take a little bit of time to get the stall speed exactly where you want it. It's not hard, but it might take a couple of iterations to get it right.

So you can still disengage the Z-start clutch with the throttle on?

TE250Guy CycleBuy list the Zstart pro for the Husky 2004-2008 TE 250. It just states you have to buy a TE 450 Clutch cover.

GREAT! Good to know there is a way to get a Rekluse Pro on the 2008 TE 250. Do you think my kid would notice if his clutch cover was missing from his TE 510? Any idea how much a TE 450 clutch cover might cost and where I, I mean he, can get one when he notices I stole his?
Thanks for the info.

I would call Halls or Taskys for something like that. They seem to be the larger more willing dealers from what I read. My 09 TXC 510 I just got last Friday is my first Husky so maybe someone else will chime in for you. I just happened to read your post and was on the CycleBuy web site and saw where that had the pro for your bike. Oh yeah just tell your son the thief must be selling metal for some extra cash or something. Good luck and if you install one be sure to post up your impressions.

I have had very good luck calling Rekluse directly, 1 866 735 5873 then ext.3 and you are getting it from the horses mouth.

I called Cycle Buy and checked on that and unfortunately, it's not correct. Seems that the part # was issued by Rekluse last year to vendors but was later canceled when they decided not to make the Pro model for the 250's. They just never got the notice not to post it .
I think I'll look into the EFM auto clutch and see how it compares to the Rekluse Pro.
Anyone try the EFM clutch?

My son will be happy to know his clutch cover is safe. Rekluse was very prompt in answering my inquiry that I posted which echoes the high reviews the people there deserve. My take on it was that someone creative in the user community had come up with a workaround, but Rekluse did not have a configuration yet that their company felt met their high standards. I hope they come up with something since in my brief dealings, I am impressed by their products and their people.

I have an EFM on my 09 TE310..........works as great as the post 3 EFM's I have had.

Joe

Can you still feather the clutch at all with the EFM?
i.e. pulling a wheelie going uphill and need to clutch it to put the front wheel down? ( something you can't do with the Z-start without letting off)

EFM

I talked to them on th phone the other day. I'm having a hard time with them making changes to my original clutch. If I ever wanted to remove the auto clutch I would have to buy new parts. I guess they do not make there own complete clutch for the 310? Joe is there any way to use a clutch lever like the Rekluse?

yes........you can still use the clutch........dont undertsand "them making changes" part though.........they modify your basket. If you go back to stock..........you can still use the modded basket though. It is not a drop in kit though but you also save $ over rekluse too.........about a 2 week turnaround. Recent injury is preventing me fromattending any ECEA in your area otherwise I would let you try it out on my 310.
Broke my right shoulder this past sunday. Yes.on the bike. slow going and dropped it and 310 piled me in like a cockaroach.

Joe

Joe, hope you heal fast and thanks for the feedback. I have to wait to ride my bike also because I tore/strained my bicep at the Pine Hill Enduro. Not sure how bad it is until I see the Doc.
With what you posted and input from TT, it seems that the EFM is better than the Z-start for the Husky 250. The EFM gives better override than the Z-start with the throttle on. (With my luck they'll come out with the Pro after I buy the EFM)
