• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rebuilding a1985 cr500... got some questions

AA Class
Hi all. New here, but Ive been lurking for a while and decided its time to ask the experts. So I got a 1985 cr500 6 speed model and it has the mini 6 motoplat in it. Ive just been generally restoring the bike. Including new chain and sprockets, rear wheel bearings, front brake pads, plastics, etc. Im trying to get lights on this badboy since I want it to be my enduro big bore.
According to my research the mini 6 has three light wires (yellow for headlight 35w 6 volts AC i think?, and a wire for blinkers and a one for tail light). Mine has the blue and black ignition wires then just one yellow wire so i dont know where the other wires are. I ran a snowblower light to it and grounded it and it lit up but pretty dim unless I revved it then it was bright.
I know I need a voltage regulator and I need to get a handlebar switch. But what is a recommended set up for this old motoplat? Everyone says just upgrade the stator but I was to save money. Is there a way to boost voltage to 12 DC to run led? Or what is the best output bulb i can run with this? i have a housing that will work so if i find the right bulb i can just use the existing housing. The light I have now is desgined for twelve volts i think so do I even need a regulator? Will the voltage or wattage ever jump above that and blow the bulb?

Everything on this bike is simple yet the electric system has got me confused. Sorry to ramble but thanks guys any and all info on this bike would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks20150330_195404.jpg 20150330_195417.jpg20150330_195424.jpg

interesting
the 1985 CR500 came with an internal rotor Motoplat mag
the Motoplat never made big power for the lighting
there will be 1 yellow wire coming from the ignition, it is split above
are you sure you 500 is a CR

yes I had confusion regarding this before but I checked frame #s Its 85 cr frame and motor with the six speed and i guess someone put in an xc motoplat becase it is the external rotor.

Ive been researching a bit more, and i confused. Is the mini six motoplat supposed to have one yellow wire or the yellow plus two others. Or are there different versions? Because on mine it only has one headlight wire (yellow)?. Im confused because every mini six motoplat i see online has three light wires: one yellow for headlight and two others for blinkers and taillight. Yet mine only has one. I just want to kno the capabilities of this wire before i charge it with a light.

There is a difference between European and US I will try to find the diagrams. Just to confirm the mini 6, Is it 12 or 6 volt? all the data sheets point to 12v, but a lot of posts on here say its 6v?

Thats what I wanna know. Some say 12 some say 6. I think its 6 though.

look your rotor !

just for your information :

6 Volts = 35 watts/5 watts /21 watts = WR europe /USA /....
(5 cables )
12 volts = 40 watts/21 w /5 watts =
( 5 cables )

CR/XC USA /europe= 3 cables ! yellow black and blue !
