  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rear wheel won't turn when I tighten nuts

Husqvarna
AA Class
I am obviously missing a spacer somewhere.
Not entirely sure which one.
Pulled bike apart 2 years ago. Thought I had everything safely tucked away.
Has anyone got a full set of spacers for a 1979 125cr rear wheel they can either sell me or at least take a picture of the spacers so I can see what's gone?
From what I can make out from the parts manual I need either part number 1516725-01 or 1516605-01.
Thank you for any help.

Have you a picture of your swing arm ? The 125's usually had the previous years MX arm. Probably the same as my 78 one.

Heres some pictures of my rear wheel and spacers.
On the non brake side is a spacer not shown on these pictures
Is anything else obviously missing?
When I took the wheel apart I cant recall the spacer with the rubber seal but I bought it because the parts diagram says its part of the assembly?
Is there a spacer that should be between the seal on the hub and the brake plate. Its doing my head in!!
Again.........any help most appreciated

The spacer originally not shown in the post above. So that completes my rear axle with spacers pictures.

Gunna hazard a guess here you do have the spacer tube in the hub between the bearings still there right?

Thanks for your assistance guys.
Yes the bearing spacer is there.
This is the parts page I have been using.
My reckoning its either item 30 (or 40) that's missing??
I would know for certain if I could see a picture. Jef Bens has both parts at 40 Euro inc postage.

Are you sure you didn't mix up the brake drum backing plate assembly from another bike, cause
a there NOT interchangeable on every model.

Something about that back plate does not look right. I have 78 and 79 plates and they are the same front and rear barring the centre bush and torque arm bush. The webs around the outside of the spindle hole are not on mine.
When you replace the back plate bush, always renew as a pair (30 & 40) also make sure you get a new rubber sealing ring (#49). Miss that little ring out and your new bushes will have a very short life !

I'm going to stick my neck out here ..... that is the WRONG back plate !
I have been down tonight to look at my spare ones. None of them look like that. The centre bush in the plate almost looks like a front one. But the outside of the casting is nothing like a 76-79 one.

You may well be right Grouty. The attached pictures were taken before I stripped the bike down.
Funnily enough in an earlier message you mentioned my swingarm and I remember something.
I have been told my bike is a 79.
When I went bought the spacer sleeves for the swingarm pivot I fitted them and they were miles too long and the swingarm wouldn't fit on the frame.
So I got 78 sleeves which were shorter and fitted straight on.
One of the pics shows the two brake plates together. You can see from the pics these are what came off the bike...............but as you say not necessarily right.

I am going to order the spacers from Jef Bens and will let you know from there.................or do I eBay and try and find a brake plate???

My aim is to ride this at the last Dorset meeting in September so S**t or bust I am going to sort it out.
Thanks for all the help to all you guys.

Hmm, I may be tempted to do the last Dorset Classic too. If I don't have the CCM going I will take the lights off the 390 Auto and use that.
I would go and buy a brake plate off ebay. If you can, buy a fromt one. There are usually less abused. When you are ordering from Jef get a complete new set of bushes. Press out the steel location sleeve and fit your new two piece bush. Press out the steel centre bush and fit the 2 piece rear one.
The frame does make it look like a 79, as the rear frame loop is different to the normal ML one.

OK guys. I feel I am almost at the top of this small hill. I now have the CORRECT backing plate etc. Well spotted Grouty .....thank you.
Before I go and stick it all together please can you tell me if the spacer is meant to go into the brass bush?
It would appear to be a "small tap with a hammer fit" rather than just a slide in.....Is this correct before I cock it all up and pay Jef Bens for more parts!!!

I thank you once again.

This is common with these bushes. It is all down to the tolerances of the hole in the back plate and the o.d. of the bushes. I usually find I need to apply some T-Cut or Brasso to the sleeve to use as a very fine lapping paste. The sleeve needs to be a free rotating fit. make sure you have ordered a new rubber sealing ring for the outside of the back plate (square section one). Otherwise you will be doing it all over again VERY soon.
Will it be running for the next Dorset meet in two weeks ?

Thanks for your help once again. Much appreciated. I owe you a pint or two!!
Yes I have a new seal so hopefully it will last a bit.
No I will not be at Dorset. Meant to be moving house but have no firm date so there are a few things on hold.
Hope to be doing their one in September and the Husky WILL be making an appearance!!
