• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rear linkage bearings/bushes

BiG DoM

Husqvarna
AA Class
I got to checking the rear linkage bearings after noticing some lateral play when up on a lift - interestingly if high up the shock extended and the play was not really easily noticeable and likewise if completely down ... but if just a little pressure taken off back wheel then was very noticeable. In removing them I was at first pleasantly surprised that they still seemed reasonably well greased but then the one lower one had wear on the inner bush and had clearly had water ingress. I had hoped I could just regrease but sadly not. So looks like I will be doing them all - probably with a Pivot Works kit.

I was surprised that the lateral play seemed to be built in - ie it was not there due to wear and also cannot be taken up through adjustment/torquing the bolts (on the two main ones anyway). Has anyone else replaced these bearings and found the same lateral/side to side play in these bearings? It is as if the internal bushing is too long? (no evident wear on the seal and spacer). It is as if they are designed this way???

Anyone bought a Pivot Works or All Balls kit - struggling to see them listed. Is the TE511 the same?

Be interesting to know, I was looking at them today and just pumped them full of EP grease, but I'm going to be replacing my swingarm pivot bearings due to some play. I couldn't really decide if I was seeing play in the suspension linkage or not...

While I was at it I pulled the swingarm and guess what they are also shagged - no play but muddy inside on the one side and going like putty on the drive side and gudgeons rusted! Lucky as I almost left them alone. Only bearings that were OK were the upper linkage dogs bone ones.

There is not a bearing kit from All Balls, Pivot Works or Pyramid Pats for the linkages (and only All Balls seems to have for the swing arm) of the 610/630. To by all the OEM parts separately is two to three times more expensive! Looks like I may be able to source the bearings and seals separately but the gudgeon bushings is another story. Has anyone solved this problem? Anyone know if the kit for other Husky models would fit the 610? I seem to think so but would be nice not to have to be the guinea pig!

Is this the bush on swingarm?

This is interesting as does give cross reference to some of the parts - where did you pull this from?

Thanks. Looks like I will need to mix and match with OEM or just bite the bullet and order all from the Stealer. No kits I can find match all the 610/630 parts.

OK hopefully good news - just discovered that Motosportz/Husqvarnaworld (forum sponsors!) sell a linkage kit for the 610/630.:D

On the service manual they state:
"The rocking lever and tie rod have been designed with a certain amount of axial play in order to allow the shock absorber to always find the ideal operating position."
My SM 610's about 9k miles (I've been the only owner) and I've never greased the swingarm, rear shock and linkages bearings, until I read this thread: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/swingarm-bearings.39835/.
Simply, I've never thought about it and I've been wondering what those two little things were for all the time I've owned the bike:
TElinkage.jpg

I feel quite an idiot now! :banghead:
This is the situation:
According to the manual, there shouldn't be radial play, so some bearings are ruined. I will check them, hoping that, at least, they're not all unserviceable and that the bearings seats are ok.

If you replace the bearings and inner race sleeves, I bet those will be just fine. You'll have way more play than that if you've chewed through the outer races into the seats.

On the subject of kits from earlier in the thread: http://www.allballsracing.com/swing-arm-and-linkage/27-1148.html

Does that kit not cover the linkage bearings?
I'm away from the bike at the moment, and unfortunately it didn't arrive before i left so i never got to confirm it fits and covers everything, but it sure looks like it covers everything from the swingarm bearings to the linkage bearings, based on my memory.

It does not mention the TE610 as a model? But if all identicle on the 630 then we are in business! I was about to order OEM. Can anyone confirm that the linkages are the same?
It

I just look at your vid.

That play looks normal to me.... in fact tighter than normal.

pull out the swingarm and lube the bearings as well as the swing arm bolt.

Hopefully the bolt will tap right out...if oyu haven't done it in a long time it may be hard to get out.

The play does not appear to be in the swingarm bearings but the linkage bearings. One or more is properly poked! Mine were and I did not have this rotational play. l:cool:
