  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Power vs noise - TE310

A Class
I've got a 2011 TE310 with a stock exhaust, the mid pipe diffuser removed and a 12 port injector and TXC ECU installed. I'm wondering if going with a FMF silencer Q type will really be any quieter? I installed one on my 2S KTM 250XC-w and it seems louder than stock which was pretty disappointing. Also I've got an off idle stumble than I need to fix, wondering if a silencer can address that as well. I bought the bike used and it came with a JD efi module that I'm going to try to install, see if that helps tune the power more to my liking.
Thanks, DK

I am pretty sure that if you use the JD tuner it defeats the TXC ECU all together. Not sure if that would be beneficial or not? I recently installed a FMF system, power bomb and RCT 4.1 and it is about the same as stock but much deeper note and not as harsh IMO. Helps with the off idle power.

The JD tuners add/subtract fuel only from whatever the ECU does. JD is added to ECU, doesnt replace.

And I fully agree on reveilles assessment of the FMF combo based having the same setup on our '13 TXC310R

OK my bad. I swear someone told me that the tuner replaces the ECU function. Maybe the PCV5 then? I went TXC ecu and mine is awesome as is.

If you've got the 12p + ECU kit installed it there should be no off idle stumble.

Did you reset the TPS with iBeat after the installation?

I also adjusted the throttle butterfly (mechanically) to close fully but not "stick" on the throttle body at 0% throttle opening. Then, with iBeat, set full closed throttle value to 0% and WFO to 100%.

Is the power up kit installed? The one that "jumps" the O2 sensor and activates the race map?

Has the cat has been removed from the midpipe?

I did all this, and honestly, I've never experienced better throttle response. It's f'ing perfect.

I also have the stock Arrow silencer and I recently repacked it with a kit. AND I put the dB killer in. Now I can hear the engine and not just the exhaust bark, with no loss of power or response. Try this first before a FMFQ.

What repacking kit are you referring to. I was told by the dealer that the stock silencer ('11 TE 310) is more like a car muffler and is not rebuildable.

I'd buy the iBeat software and cable from SEMCO before I spent money on a JD tuner. iBeat allows you to adjust the fueling, as well as resetting the TPS along with diagnostic capability.

I agree, as long as you have a bike that is iBeat-able....

answering Venturini-

Your dealer is correct, kind of. Under the outer sheet metal of the silencer is another sheet metal wrap, welded in place around the packing. It's like a can within a can. This inner "liner" must be cut away and discarded. Then, it's just like any other dirtbike silencer. If you want I will look up the exact kit I purchased, but I can tell you it was a universal pillow-type poly fill kit.

Now, this extra layer of sheet steel MAY be there to protect the outer layer from the additional heat the cat creates (if so, would the TXC silencer P/N be different?). So maybe if you still have the cat in place it's not such a good idea to try and repack the can..
