  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Please help! 20087 TE450 electrical issue(s)

I mean 2008 model not one in the future!
Thanks in advance. My old 450 has developed an issue-the indicators, headlight and brake light and horn no longer work ie everything from the LHS control block on the bars.It all used to work fine. Also , when the ignition on, running light and tail light on, when I plug in the wiring from the control block and depress either front or rear brake, the tail light goes out.The license plate light is fine.Of course, the colours of wires on the bike dont match the wiring diagram! What Ive done so far: new battery, checked the earth to the switch block, checked the switch block works ie no shorts, removed both horn and headlight to exclude shorts, checked main earth, removed both DC power relays to see if it made any difference (no), tried a new indicator relay ( no difference).
Can anyone think /know what the problem is? It was working now not.No major stacks or getting frisky with the power washer.I thought it'd be a bad earth or something like this.On my TM, the wiring was a lot simpler and the issues I had were easily correctable ( well, fairly!).
thanks again

oh, stupid question, because it hasnt run for a while I cant remember if it needs to be running for the headlight horn indicators and brake lights to work.

does have to be running for headlight and brake light. Sounds like a short somewhere propable due to chaffing of insulation. Got to strip her down and look for worn harness etc.

I have a 2010 TE 310, the electrics would be very similar to your 2008 450.
I had a fair few areas where my insulation was rubbed through, coming close to exposing the metal in a few places. Pull off all of the plastics and have a very thorough inspection.
Look at this post of mine from a while ago. I put up a few pictures where my wiring/insulation was worn through.

My headlight switch block burned out also. I had to solder the low beam light together to salvage it.
