• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Penguins dual sport, Husky nearly a no-show

Cal Poly Penguins ran the Hi-Mountain Dual Sport ride this Sunday and with the exception of me and my brother on TE 450's I think I only saw one other 05/06.

A few more of the ride on My Smugmug.

This is a great ride with a good lunch on some property you would never get to tread on otherwise. Maybe next year we can get a little more yellow/blue and red/white to dilute the sea of orange that was there this year.

Looks like a blast. Where was the event held? Looks like the hills down in our neck of the woods.

San Luis Obispo. These guys get a few local ranches to open up once a year to connect trails.

I've heard some great things about this ride

There are several dualsport rides that would be fun, this one would be my first choice. How far away from the ocean did you get? Did the ocean keep the temps down with a sea breeze?

My brother was running the Zumo while I ran (ripped!?) the roll chart. My guess is about 30-40 miles east of SLO at it's farthest point. The temps were perfect, started with jackets in the AM, warmed up nicely mid day with a slight breeze and cool near the finish. The short stint back down Hwy 101 to the finish had me wishing I'd stopped to put my jacket back on... brrrr.

Looks like a fantastic ride. I will have to try and keep up with this ride and try to get to it next year. I have a couple of other 610 riders here in Monterey, would be cool to do a road trip for that event!
