• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Paint chips (?) in oil filter after 270hrs

I just changed the oil in my 08 TXC250 again and it has ~270 hrs on the bike ...The odd thing is the SS filter and the larger screen at the bottom of the engine both had what appeared to be many red paint chips in them ... After all these hours is it possible paint is still flaking off something internally or is this something else?

I have had a little bit of red on my screen in the past and did not worry about it Ray. No issues developed (is you oil filter paper red perchance)

I use an SS filter and it had many of the red specs in it also ... I usually have a few of these specs but this time the red was very abundant in the filters ...

The bike is running well and the drain plug had just the few shavings...

It's the loctite that they use on the case halfs. It's not thread locker it's a gasket maker type. I think it's loctite 230.

Interesting & that triggers a new thought ;) ... I did use some red silicon sealant on the valve cover and on the breather hose fitting coming out of the valve cover cap to stop some small leaks ... I bet it is this stuff and is the reason why so much showed extra up in the filter since my last oil change ...

have just done the filters on my 2010 310 at 130km same red gasket material .wont get worried unless i find shiny metal stuff

Generally a great troubleshooting technique: What maintenance was recently done to the machine? What has changed since the last use? Where were things disturbed?

I have to use that stream of thought nearly every day on flying machines with issues. Most times it greatly reduces the amount of time required to isolate the problem. Then again, sometimes stuff just happens!

Right and good troubling-shooting technique ... I had forgotten I put some silicon sealant around the value cover the last time I checked the valves... I'm thinking now that this is why the abundance of red specs came from ...

Am glad that's all it appears to be good for you, Ray. Good to see the high hours on that little beast! I hope my 08 holds up as well!

Lots of riding is on the street at < 6500 RPM and on the trails I try not to REV past 10G too often ... But the vapor always stores some 12G number as top RPM hit :) ...

After the engine got loose, it just runs up to top of the scale very quickly...

Most likely some anaerobic sealant
