  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc other engines for 1999 wr360

hey guys im going to get a 1999 wr 360 and am wondering what other engines i could put in the frame? is there any ktm engines that will fit or could i put the wr250 engine in it? just wondering because the 360 engine needs work and i cant find any used engines around me. thanks

probably easier and cheaper to rebuild the 360 at least that way you know the engine will be as good as the parts you put in.put an unknown engine in ie wr/cr250/360 would be a gamble as to its history wear.
a full rebuild would set you back about $2000 inc nikasil, piston and bottom end and bearings but at least you have got a new engine.
saying that i replaced an engine on a wr125 with an older cr125 engine from a 2002 model and has never missed a beat since installation but was a very clean example and only set me back $1000 usd.

the 360 was not a huge seller, try to find a used bike or parts, both are rare
exactly whats wrong with your engine

it needs a crank rebuild. it will only cost me about $700 usd to fix it but i have been told by some people that it may just be easier to get a new engine.

hmmm, well, it doesnt sound like you are really that into having a unique bike, why not get a bike that is easier to get parts for? im not saying that in a negative way, either. i mean, a crank rebuild isnt that big a deal...just swapping in motors instead of rebuilding sounds odd to me..a jap bike may be easier?

Is that with labor?
There is a lot of work to pull the engine and do a crank overhaul
Are you able to do any work or just not into it ?
Personally I enjoy working on things like this an it seems less of a big deal

I don't think it's that big of a deal to dot he crank but some people have been saying that I should just get a different engine so I wanted to get another opinion on it.

Yea I'm just going to do it myself. Make it a nice fall/winter project.

Full bottom end vs 2nd hand 360 or 250....go the rebuild as it's a lottery on a 2nd hand motor plus you have to rebuild a bottom end soon or later?

if you get a motor i will happly have the 360 lump off ya, like premo states its hard to find spares etc
