• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Orange or Red for 72' CR400 tank?

Hello everyone ...

What is the correct color for a 1972 CR400 tank ... Is it the red or the orange?

I finally found a good core tank with perfect chrome. It had been painted another color but under the paint it was in very good shape :)

Thank you!

Tom

Its red, in that era the orange was used on the 250/360 RT's and 450's with the exception of the 450 Desert Master which was yellow.

Thanks man ... I hope you're right, I prefer the red. The WR's got the orange I think too ... I think I remember reading that that bigger tank went as far as 74 on WR's in orange. My CR was fitted with a skinny maroon tank in 73.

I stand corrected, looks like its orange. New Husky color for 72? They sure were pretty off the showroom floor.

I am still not sure ... I have looked at many pages of images (little written information though) and my jury is still out ... Nothing definitive to go on yet ...

Looking at the parts book for the 72 Huskys shows the 400CR, 450WR and 450CR all used the same tank part # 1514040-05. So going by that the color would be orange.

Marty, Thank you for looking that up for me ... That's as conclusive as it could be. Orange it is. I prefer the red but hey-ho.

I had a 72 CR 400 years ago and the tank was orange like the pic above. Wish I still had it...
