• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Opinions on this oil screen debris, please...

Hi Gang. Changed the oil this afternoon- 630 @ 4800 miles, 1300 miles since last change...oil changed every 1000-1300 w/ full synthetic. I'm pulling the shifter side screens every other change, and at 4800 really wanted a peek as I'm on the lookout for clutch washer debris. Don't think that's what this is, but concerned/curious about what I did find. Pics below...I suck at this so they'll probably be a bit small- sorry...still learning. There's some gunk on it- that doesn't concern me as much. It's the "splinter" like material that is interesting. Pulling a few flakes off they at first looked bronze-ish, but I'd swear (once I handled them as best I could..they're small) that they were plasticy...broke fairly easily. Plug magnet looked fine- the usual super-fine/powdery sh*t on that. Please let me know your thoughts, or if you've seen something like this yourselves. Huge thanks!

Nothing scary looking on there for 2000-2500 miles since the last change.

The plastic-y stuff is loctite and case sealant and the splinters are gears meshing.

You probably won't find washer debris of any size in there. I pulled my clutch at around 8500 miles and the washers show hardly any wear dispite my flogging, so I left them alone for now.

Huge thanks man- I really appreciate the response. I'm planning a long ride tomorrow and didn't want to be thinking about it- I love this bike. Just put new sneaks on the thing (T63 front and Mefo rear) and new brake pads, and changed the oil obviously. This is actually the third time I've pulled these screens and have never seen anything like this- so was initially a bit worried. Thanks again.

My screens at 7k+ and about 800 miles of hard offroad riding since last oil change.

That's what mine typically look like, which is why I was concerned. Still, had the bike out for about 5 hours yesterday and all good....good day.
