• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oils ain't Oils...what do ya use

A Class
OK so last time I bought 4L of oil from the dealer who I bought the 630 from and without paying much attention (cos those guys know best :-) I've been using Motul 7100 10w 40, now see on the service schedule its suppose to be 10w 60. I guess its no biggie but as I was having a little bit of clutch growl on the first take off when cold, maybe thats the cause.

Would you expect any long term issue with running a wrong oil?

If when you are riding and your engine temperature is always high 10w60 would be better.
On my husky 630 I use Ipone 10w60, on my drz400 I use in warm period Silcolene 10w50.

Philty i used to use the pricey motul gear but have switched to penrite . There hpr gas & diesel oils are seemly great in 4 stroke dirtbikes . I have been using there bike specific stuff . 10w50 from memory . Half the price of the motul and seems to be going well.

I run Castrol RS 4T 10w50 in my 630, it gives me the most mileage before feeling it in the clutch.
You know how it starts getting a little grabby as the oil breaks down.
Rotella gave me ~800-1000 miles, Mobil1 ~1500 miles, I run the Castrol to 2k miles with the clutch still smooth.

The 630 isn't like a smaller motor with a tiny oil capacity, if you use good oil there's no reason you can't run to 2k miles.

The Castrol is ~$16/qt, but I get it half price by the case on Amazon.

For some reason in australia recommended is 10/60.Dealer services were shell ax7 15/50 .I have used ipone 10/60 and the penrite 10tenths 10/70 and 10/60 for awhile

Mobil 1 full synthetic 15W50 for year round riding here in Texas and the west.
Only ~$5 a quart at WalMart which means 24/7 availability in 50% of the cities in the US. Percentage would be higher but only the larger WM's carry that weight. I use it in all my bikes.

Based on recommendations, I am just switching to the Mobil 1 euro 0W40. Again, cheap, proven and readily available. Cam

ps I ran that Mobol1 15W50 in an old tired chev 350 truck. Was at 260,000 when I got it and was at 420,000 when I sold it. Great oil.

Usually I put 10W60. A local dealer keeps telling me I'd be fine with the fully synthetic 15w50 he puts in all the bikes. And I've read the AGIP 10W60 downgrades pretty quickly in any case.

Trying to decide if I should try the 15w50... Has anyone out there run a 15w50 oil analysis compared to 10w60 by any chance?

We run M1 0W40 in our 630's all day long and in the middle of summer. Even at 350°F, M1 0W40 has a cSt of 3.8 which is negligibly lower than 15W50.
