  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oil change question

My bike does not have hours , I did the math changing km to miles , I do no racing just fireroads mostly and play in the hills sometimes, manual says 620 miles first then 3,000 miles , thoughts on how often you guys would do it in miles please....... thanks

I also change every third ride or 500Kms. I change the oil filter every second oil change. I use a good quality semi syn such as Motul 5100 (10 50). paying more is a waste given the frequency of the changes ie the extra package of esther and retardants etc are not utilsed at that stage and not necessary. I am harping on this from a fire trail/ST jockey not a moto crosser.

GHTE if you think Motul is cheap you should see what I use......Mobile One auto oil at $4.00 a quart. I was skeptical at first but am a total believer after researching and trying myself. Motul is quality stuff too.

Hey Borpa how is your clutch going, any slippage. I understand (might just be retail spin) that auto engine oils do not have the right package for motor bikes that share engine oils with clutches and gear boxes.

Mobil1 0W40/300-500 miles, do not go 3000 miles (30 miles 1st change). I have five TE310s, multiple other Huskys, Husabergs and KTMs, all run Mobil1 (100% clutch safe). Stainless steel oil filters maximize the oil flow in the 310's helping them run cooler and last longer.

Tinken quick question for you, in the uk we dont have rotella T6. But we do shell helix ultra 5w40 fully synth, ive seen in the oil specs that its SN rated. Will this be ok to run in a 07 TE 450 running E3 evap system. One of the reasons im asking about shell is that i can a good deal on the oil in 20ltrs pails and im planning on changing the every 300 miles.

Yes, Shell created Helix Ultra in order to compete directly with Mobil1's 0W40.

GHTE, Not trying to sell you anything but my bikes shift better than they did with the so called good stuff. You are correct that many auto additives are not proper for wet clutch/bikes but the non additive euro blend is perfect and as good or better than some of the more mainstream brands.

Tinken the bike is a 2007 TE 450 I have the K&P number 2160 and the Hi flow number HF154 its just my local dealer only has PC racing ss filers in the uk. Again many thanks for your time. My apologies for high jacking thread

I'm guessing a PC141, but I will have to call them tomorrow if I have time and check actual sizes. Needs to be 1.774 in length with a diameter of 1.733, inlet 0.689"

My apologies to the OP for swaying the topic a little :D
