  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oil change for new Husky

eprider

Husqvarna
C Class
Just got new '12 TE449. Would like to do my first oil & filter change now at @150miles. Got the filter but having a hard time finding the non synth 10w40 Castrol 4T motor oil (what the dealer installed during buildup) at any of my local moto or auto part stores. Wandering how important it is to stay w the Castrol oil.
I Live in the mountains of Fraser, Colorado where the temp can get cold when running in the spring and fall. Should I wait to change viscosity till break in period is done? Or should I stay w/ the brand that's in there?
Any info would be great. Thanks

Any of the non-synth MC oils should work fine, 10w40 Yamalube, Honda, etc., also, I believe at wallyworld, there's a section where MC stuff like oil is at, there are some non-synth MC oils there as well.

Cycle gear carries it, and they do Web sales. Unless you feel up to driving to Utah, New Mexico, or Kansas, there isn't one in your state, but you're alomost surrounded by states that do I guess. Good excuse for a ride on the Harley if it was me... Here's a link: http://www.cyclegear.com/eng/produc...ic_4_stroke_motor_oil/web1001312?registry_id=
I have stuck with the Castrol and it hasn't let me down. Then again, Castrol is all I use. Only exception including all my cars and other bikes is I run HD synthetic in the HOG.

It's a "big oil" money game is why they are using castrol to factory fill them.... My two cents, you won't hurt your bike at all by going with , golden spectrol, motorX , maxima, honda or yamaha oils are all better than castrol , shell, mobil or any of the " Big Oil " brands.... I get my paycheck through Big oil so not hatting on them, they just use chemists to formulate and don't test in our garages and see how crappy the stuff comes out the drain hole.. MotorX is the best :)

Kinda off topic, but is there any reason for not running a full synthetic in this motor? My Dad just gave me 4 quarts of Mobil 1 full syn. 10W-40 and I am ready for my second oil change, so thinking of switching. I also have the spec oil at home, but just curious if anyone's done it and liked it.

Does the clutch seem to care?

Supposed to run conventianal oil during break-in, that could be 50 miles, depending on your interpretation and execution of break-in.

I have run Mobil1 15w50 full synth for the last 6000 miles, (near 10,000 total now). Clutch is fine, and the oil saved my motor when I ran the bike home at 65mph with no coolant. Scott Summers also reported that he ran a Husky out of coolant and finished his enduro (past article by him on needed mods to Husky bikes).

I run PU 0w40 fully synthetic with 20% Duralube. I have ran this since I first started my engine new on my Husky. I have never had a problem with my wet clutches in any of my motorcycles, street or dirt. I have used Mobil 1 0w40 European Formula if I cannot find Ultra. Amsoil also carries 0w40 which does not contain any friction modifiers. My Husky never runs hot, but in the event that I did run over 305 degrees for my oil temperature, I would switch to 0w50.
