• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Nuetech TUBLISS tire system?

Very few of the 18" have been made...thus no use with trials tires yet. I'm anxious to try one...hopefully in Sept, but I'm not holding my breath. Email jeff@nuetech.com to get the latest on availability. Some months ago when I emailed him, he was not aware of any trials users, yet.

A friend that races Senior A class uses it on the rear and has just recieved the front tire one. He says it is a very good product and makes a noticeable difference in suspension performance due to the whole unsprung weight thing. He's very pleased with it. I have a front and rear on order (well, backorder). I'd suggest getting your order in now or you may be waiting until next year. I have spoken to Jeff and he was switching manufacturers at the time, roughly 3 weeks ago. He hopes to have the rears in any day now. I think he said the fronts are 6 weeks out.

As for trails, you already have the advantage of lower pressure but I would think you'd still notice better suspension performance.

Rockymountainatv.com has them (on backorder), find one of their $20 off $200 or more coupons, free shipping, no tax charged at purchase for out of state, good deal.

I know nothing about nuetech at all, nada zilch zero - nothing.

But I did try to get a product completely unrelated to bikes. The company that made that product sold direct to the public and through distributors.

The distributors sold the product at a discount and people have been on waiting lists from those distributors for at least 2 years... in the meantime the factory filled the direct orders with a 6 week lead time at full price.

I know nothing about nuetech but just something to think about.

Understood, but I'd rather wait until they are in mainstream distributors and then retailers versus being part of the unwitting test team.

I've been corresponding with Jeff since last fall on these...as of yesterday the new due date isn't until mid November....:(

Wow, Jeff is either very patient, wealthy or both. My order still stands, I'm excited to lose 3.5lbs of Bridgestone UHD rubber! I guess the anticipation will continue...

I am interested in these also.
It would be nice to not have to carry extra tubes while DS riding. A plug kit takes up a lot less room.

Just checking RockyMountain back order status, when you add the item to the cart you get this -
Temporarily out of stock.
Expected in stock Feb 12, 2009

Ouch!

I have contacted him trying to be part of the unwitting test team. :D

Spoke with Jeff this morning and the target date for the 18/21 is Dec 1st. Cool product / look forward to trying it out. he also mentioned that in there testing of trials tires the Dunlop was to soft walled to hold up but the Pirelli was working very good.

I have had a 21” installed for 10 months now and have an 18” installed for a month. They are incredible.

First of all, you can run as low as 4 psi in your tire which gives you gobs of tractions.

Second, if you do flatten your tire you can still ride because the Tubliss holds the tire to the rim and you can keep riding.

That brings up a point. You can still get a flat with this system. If you puncture the tire itself, it will go flat. You can puncture the tubliss but, it would be very unlikely. The Tubliss sits down in the bottom of the rim and is surrounded by a heavy rubber casing. I personally am trying out Slime. This is under Tubliss’s suggestion. When I change tires in a couple of weeks I will have my answer to continue to use Slime or not. An alternative to Slime is to carry a plug kit. Will not prevent flats but will fix one out on the trail without having to remove the tire.

Third, I always ran Moose HD tubes. I weighted the rear after I removed it and it came in at 4lbs. not including the rim lock. I weighted a 18” Tubliss and it came in at 1 lb & 9 oz with the rim lock. I just removed 2 ½ lbs of spinning mass from my bike. The front is not quite as drastic of a savings but still a savings.

There has been an issue with using trials tires. There have been some mounting problems with certain brands and models of trails tires. Plus on thinner walled tires like trails tires and some MX tires if you run 4 or 5 psi and slam into rocks the tire sidewall gets pinched between the rim and the rock which has caused some to be sliced. Run 8 psi and this problem goes away.

Like I said in the beginning, I love this new system especially in combination with the Motoz tires. The Motoz Enduros are heavy walled tires which allow you to run that 4 psi and they resist punctures very well.

cool thanks for the report!
I use Brigstone Ultra Heavy Duty tubes ($25)- I think they weigh even more than the Moose tubes (I have used them both). So the savings is greater depending on the tubes you use- PLUS the Tublis also replaces your rim locks and are incorporated in the 1.9 ounces you reported- more weight savings there to be added- what 4-5 more ounces too.

I think the initial investemnt seems like alot- but I usually change tubes every other tire change no matter the condition of the tube- just for confidence sake- seems the tublis could last longer than a tube cause it is not getting pinched and has less friction and movement within the tire?

I'd rather plug a tire than change a tube on the trail- for sure.
