• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

NORRA MEXICAN 1000 Vintage Baja Rally/Race

I've been invited to do this race on a previous top running/finishing Honda XR500. It looks super cool and I really appreciated/honored that an offer like that was even made to me. I declined, I don't race open course stuff, and believe me this is a no bs Baja race.
I will keep an eye on their race this year. See Hale rider of record XR500, I will be cheering for them,

they finished 2nd behind Tim Morton in 2010 cat 8A big cc bikes

PS they may still be looking for another team rider to commit. PM

Uh guys, I deployed with, then Capt, Mike Shatynski.

We were assigned to Naval Coastal Warfare Group-1 together. I actually went up over the border into Um Qassr, Iraq with him in July 03' for some "Combat Tourism".

Tried to get on with Scott (Capt.) Jerabek's (one of the crew in this article) unit in Imperial Beach, CA too. But, the Coast Guard told me, "No more playing w/the Navy".

I did NORRA twice. It was kind of a cool concept having a race for vintage machines. They are kind of getting away from the original concept, going to a race for everyone. The cost has gone way up too. I probably won't do it again. I liked the first three day concept, now it has gone to four.

But I am planning on this one, motorcycles only, relatively inexpensive and easier logistics as it is Northern Baja only.

You should stop into the shop sometime in April and check out the vehicle as its prepped.

Saw George and Mike working on car Saturday, 4/6. Gas tank vent installed, brakes and hubs being checked and at least o-rings being replaced. Engine back (picture) Various parts shined up a bit.

I think Scott just got his 1'st Star
So he's to busy to come out and dump gas for me.

Car was started today and ran. Body panels went off for cleaning, paint and old timey decals. Still work to do but the 1776 engine sounds fine. Seat Harness was re-done. Had a little movie of the engine running but it did not show as upload able.
D-Day is 4/27...

Leaving today for engine testing in Plaster City, then on to Mexico, Mexicali I believe.

It lives, It runs, and it stopped pretty good too. I think this vehicle was in parts since 1996 at least. Somehow he remembered how to put it together and a friend (Rich's Signs) got the lettering and logos and paint restored to it's well worn lustre... I will try and get some daylight pics today as they load this on the trailer. 2 liters of VW awesomeness

Looks like George finished

1st in his Class VOB (Vintage Old Buggy) 2.2L
2nd in Vintage to Walker Evans 1978 D150 Truck
7th Overall excl. Motorcycles.

Had to do some welding along the way twice.

Might be having a margarita or beer...probably a beer. Probably out of Ensure.

Local fast off road kid and all around nice young man, Justin Morgan won the OA on a BajaBound (Tim Morton's) CRF450.

Well, up until about an hour before handing out trophies George thought he'd won his class. They re-figured some times where a racer stopped to help an injured rider and well he may tell the story himself if he wants. He wasted a bit of time in the first stage chasing some rabbit on the lake-bed...about 30 min. lost. Had some mechanical issue that got fixed a couple of times and made him a little wary of racing all out. Mike Shatynski drove well as co-driver and they met Sara Palin in Cabo ....think her husband was in the race. Said she's purty....;)

Oh yeah, one funny bit. On one section of the course George passed a racer named Landaker (pretty sure it was this guy) and then near the finish of the section PASSED HIM AGAIN. George sort of knew what happened but verified he did pass him twice to which Landaker winked and said, "I live down here."
