• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

No Toil Air Filter Cleaner & Oil

Husqvarna
Pro Class
I usually keep two air filters around. One in the bike and one sitting in a ZipLoc baggie, oiled and ready to go.

I'm swapping air filters today and I noticed my "clean" filter is covered in black mold! Has anyone else experienced that?

I never had a problem with the bottles of liquid No Toil oil I have used in the past. This time around, I bought some in an aerosol can. Here's the stuff:

Bio-degradable on the can, makes me think organic, hence a possibility for bacterial growth. I'd be waiting to apply it right before installation.

I recently switched to No-toil from my long time favorite PJ1 spray on stuff. I have to say i love it. Super EZ to clean and no oily mess. Been filtering the incoming air good, no signs or passing dirt. I just do the same filter, let it dry overnight, spray on the filter oil the next morning and head out. never left it on for long amounts of time but think it is some vegetable or other organic oil so the molding sounds about right.

I think you did not let the No Toil oiled filter dry enough before putting it in a baggie. I find it takes 24 hours for the aromatic compounds evaporate. The green biodegradable stuff works great.

I went back to the regular No Toil stuff. I hated the spray can anyway. I dump mine in a plastic bag with the filter and smush it around.

I have been using No-toil for years and really like it, recently switched to the alcohol free formula but have not decided which I like better. I get the liquid and put it in a shampoo type bottle and squirt it on. I have found that if you leave it in a bike too long just sitting it trys to glue it self to the cage.
You are supposed to let the filter air out before using, that may be what caused the mold because I have never had it happen on a bike where it gets air.

I used it for awhile and stopped because there was always a puddle of it from the bottom of the air box to the floor in the summer. The filter would seem dry after a couple of weeks and dirt in the boot. I suppose if I cleaned and oiled the element the day before each ride?
Back to PJ1 for me. No more puddle under the bike and the boot is clean YRMV

i have not had that problem. Have you tried the spray on stuff?

I've got dust in air boot as well with the green no-toil (not the spray stuff) and have a couple of friends that have had the same thing. I will not use no toil again, yes it's easy but not worth the risk, PJ1 or Twin Air oil for me.

I've been using NoToil since it came out and I've never had an issue. I think that's been around ten years or better now. I even use their filters. I put 3 oz. of oil on the filter, work it in and install it. I think I have about 8 filters and the dirty ones go in a box until I have about 6 and they all go in the washing machine together. They go to the dryer on "Air Fluff" after the wash, then into a bag for storgage until ready to use. I'll normally install a clean filter after the bike has been washed and prep.'d to ride. Sometimes they'll sit for as much as a week, other times the next day.

Never an issue, I love the stuff. As long as they haven't screwed it up trying to make it better, or greener, then I'll keep using it.

A couple of days ago I found a puddle of green oil under my bike. This was after letting the filter and pre-filter fully dry and two days of riding! I'm very surprised the liquid did not evaporate long before.

Ive never seen this problem. Checked my spare which has been sitting in baggie for 2 months...no sign of problem.

When I first noticed the NoToil was drooling off my filters, I figured I must have put too much on, so I cleaned them up and re-did them, only to have the same thing happen.
I had been using the stuff for more than a year before I started noticing the oil not staying on the element. :excuseme:

I think I will go back to the original formula(alcohol), never had a problem with it.
It was the original formula that I was having trouble with. Like I said, I thought I must have been doing something wrong. ??
During the really warm weather is when I noticed it, but it is during that time that dust is the worst, so I didn't want to take chances.

I've found my Twin Air filters become unglued with No-Toil until I stopped washing them in hot water.

The no-toil stuff seems to dry out after a while...not so for BelRay filter oil.

Still WAAAAY easier to clean with no-toil.
