• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi guys i have just bought a SMS 630, slightly miffed took me a while to start from cold, there must be a knack.Suppose its tights to as only has 250 mile on speedo. What is this cold start lever just a fast idle or something.Mine doesnt stay on,you have to hold it on that right.Other thing stupid question how do the RPM increments work on the LED,was going to check tick over when warm.
Anyway i am ordering a set of Arrow pipes and ECU today so i am hoping this will cure alot of issues.

Just had it running took a few attempts popping a bit at first and then stalled numerous times. It did tickover ok once it was warm. The idle speed of 1650-1700 RPM concerns me,does each black box equate to 500 rpm, mine as two showing, very confused here how to relate to RPM.Help appreciated, will get the Arrows and ECU ordered tomorrow.

Your bike if new and without the power up and a JD tuner will not run very well. The air box is also very choked. Most everyone has removed snorkel and drilled holes. I own a 610, but have close friends with 630 and they have all had the mods make a huge difference. I'm sure a 630 owner will chime in. Good luck and enjoy! BTW, nice score on the low mile 630!! Hard to find!

BTW, welcome! You'll find some great people with a ton of knowledge, ready and willing to share it.

Mine did not run at all well until I did the p/u. This is the FIRST thing to do (fit the plug). NEXT thing to do is the ECU and a set of pipes. THEN, you´ll find the idle is much too fast (easy to turn down with the small spanner in the tool kit). Don´t think anyone uses the start lever. I´ve never found it necessary. If you take the next step and open up the airbox, think you´ll definitely need a JD tuner to set the fuel to the increased air intake.

Your cold running problems most likely stem from the bike being set up to conform with environmental regulations.

I use the fast idle lever when starting up in the morning, and hold it in a few moments to get the engine going a bit before releasing it. I believe 1650 rpm is normal idle speed.

Guys what does each little black counter on the RPM mean, i have two showing on idle, does each segment represent a 1000 or 500 rpm. Thanks for replies.

Guys here in UK no one sells these pu plugs, what are they could i make one and how and where to fit please, like i said i am ordering Arrow cans direct from husky with ECU.

You can buy the resistor thing at radio shack if you have radio shack. Search the DIY power up kit on CH and it will give you all the details.

That little black bar counter is practically useless and I wish the display didn't even have it. It is +/- 1,000 rpm accuracy and black bars too small to count when riding anyway, haha.

SilverBullet is correct.

If you want a more precise RPM display, you have to hit the button on your gauge cluster until the RPMs display on the bottom. That's how I ride with mine most of the time. The RPM bars are worthless.
