  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So i just got this bike as my thrasher bike for the nasty stuff.it has only been ridden about 5 rides and is nice and clean for now but it will be a good bike for its intended purpose.i am familiar with these as i had a 2008 which i rode for about 150 hours.my 2008 had a bog that i would try to ride around but this one seems to carburate better down low.i tried a few things with the older bike but never got it to run as good as i wanted.i rode the 2009 sunday and it brought back familiar memories.i have a question and hope that some of you may be able to offer me some good ideas.how do we make these bikes rev up quicker?they are a little lazy and the power is not bad but not real exciting either.i know its not a japanese mx bike but i want it to be more responsive than a honda 230.what do you think i should try to make it a more of a revver?dan

TC ignition and cam ?

300 kit...

I like the way my TXC works with the 300 kit. I really don't see where a person could use more power in the woods. But I really like small bore bikes, and only weigh 165 lbs...

Here is a quick video from a few weeks ago of me chasing Kelly on his ATK... The TXC with the 300 kit just has a nice bark to it.

I

Later,

310 kit sounds best ... :0 )

But I've never really had a bog on my 08 TXC250 ... I used a JDjetting kit and the o-ring trick on the accelerator pump and have never looked back ... And please, my bike and yours ain't no hondo ...
----------

Nice video except I have not rode in trees of that size, that close together lately .... That dirt looks perfect!

I use the JD kit as well. No bog. I also run a different ignition box that let's it rev out a little higher. Can't remember the model, got it from Halls. The 300 kit is sort of on my wish list, not sure yet. I like the 250 as is right.now, though there were times when a little more umpf would have been nice. I came of a Yz 2 stroke and am still adjusting to the 4t power.

My memory can be wrong but it seems like the needle and leak jets were the issue with these bikes ...

I'd really like the 310 kit also .. I think .... Probably make lower RPM (< 6G) riding easier 4 sure ... I sort of 4stroke the 4stroke sometimes as they will just keep pulling ESP with stock gearing or lower ...

The traction on my bike was not what I thought it would be ... Its a 4t (my first) so I thought traction was a given but I gotta use the clutch to keep the rear tire planted sometimes .... Or just be sure to twist the throttle open slowly and steady to keep the rear from braking loose ... ESP at the 6G RPM ... The engine seems to have a small power band right there ... Not as much as my 02 CR250 but at the 6G mark, the engines sets on fire ...

Jake, awesome to see you back and making great vids! looks like "stucca"? Was thinking of hitting it tomorrow.

I've sure been thinking of going back to a 250 thumper. Been on 2-strokes mostly though the years and my current ride is a Gasgas EC250 which is such a great woods bike. Great linear power delivery and can be ridden like a 4 stroke with ease. But, I had a Yami WR250f that I was bought for my son and I ended up loving the little bike in the woods. Stable, power to the ground, nice to throw around and not tiring was what I loved. I eliminated the bog and it ran really well.

TXC250 would be cool. Nice '10 TC250 demo local for a steal. Hmm

IMO, 250 thumpers make awful good woods bikes!

My 2009 txc does not have a bog as the 2008 did.it just revs rather slow compared the the ultralight husky motor or a jap mx bike.i really dont need more power but would take some i want a livlier power.

i checked and the cams are the same for tc,txc and te bikes.is a fmf slip on something to consider(not the Q)?i have thought about the tc flywheel/stator.

310 kit is the way to go hands down. Best mod I did to any bike,....ever! Makes the TXC250 into twice the bike.

Later,

Jake, can you confirm that your 300cc jug is not just a bored 250cc jug? Meaning, the 300cc jug is a larger cylinder in overall, total size and not just the diameter of the bore is larger... I was thinking of maybe re-sleeving my stock 250 jug to the 310 size but that sounds like maybe too much of a stretch for the stock size cylinder ..

The Athena kit uses a larger jug.

humm ... The 250 jug is just too small bore out to the 300cc piston size? Does that Athena kit come with a larger connecting rod and bearing?
Just a piston, wrist pin, jug and gaskets. Easy to install, but takes a bit of time.

Boring is beyond my realm other than just make the hole bigger ... so I'm be clueless on if this is even workable or not to any degree ... Sounds like a question for George maybe ...

Looked it up on the net. Piece of cake. All you have to do is pull the jug and piston, reinstall their jug, piston, wristpin and gaskets and you're done. Now that's on your '08. the 2010 (310 kit) is a different deal all together because you have to change the stroke as well. I wouldn't go there unless my engine needed a full overhaul.
