  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

new TE250 -- no coolant!

R_Little

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Actually 16 oz total.

Pls tell me my new 10 te250 has a thermostat and that is why when I start it there is no flow in the radiator.

I decided to take a peek and pulled the rad cap and the radiator was dry. I had to lay the bike on its side to fill the right side rad.

I drained the system and found 12 oz of coolant. I figure there must be another 4 oz in the cylinder head and water pump for a total of 16oz.

Don't forget to check that your overflow bottle is filled to the line also. My 09 txc250 overflow tank was bone dry new.

Did not even see the an overflow bottle.

Was too worried about the dry radiators.

Does your bike have a thermostat?

Thanks

check to make sure the water pump impellar is on the shaft properly and of course that it is in the engine.very important!!!dan

FYI: for the 2010 TE250, the is a recall regarding the water pump. If the bike is brand new, the blame is most likely on your dealer. If you already rode it some, you might want to ask your dealer about the wate rpump recall.

That is why there was no coolant I think.

I asked the dealer to check the impellar before he delivered the bike and he said he did so.

I'm guessing he forgot to refill it.

Anyway, do you know if there is a thermostat on the bike.

I see a valve thingy and a return line in the up line off the water pump.

If there is no thermostat then I'm going to ask them to come 1 hr to my home and pick up the bike, cause the pump aint pumping

thanks

I know...I'm pissed.

That bike was expensive.

Yes Rich, there is a thermostat on this bike. If you are looking at the left side of the bike it is the black plastic thing in the lines. Sorry I do not have a pic of it.

That is what I thought it was.

I need to warm up the bike and see if when it opens the coolant flows.

Next bike I buy will be in a crate! I'll do it myself.

Is there an overflow tank too?

Thanks

The 2010 TXC250 doesn't have one, I traced the overflow hose and it ends under the skidplate. For some reason I thought street legal (TE) versions were required to have a recovery tank. Did you overheat the bike initially before discovering the low coolant level?

First Off call your dealer and tell him what is going on.

If something goes wrong you won't have much to stand on by say'n "The guys on Cafe Husky said"....

If your dealer says it's OK to fill the rad up do so and with the rad cap off you should see flow of coolant through the opening where the cap fits.
If you see no movement...not a good thing.

If you are worried about internal damage tell your dealer.

The T stat will just bring on the fan (If you have one) it does not allow coolant to flow like in a car.

Hope this helps you.

I have not seen the re-call but I heard about it. It is for all the 250's and basically it is just checking the torque of the waterpump impeller nut. I checked mine and it was not loose but it was not over tight. I just took the nut off and cleaned it really good with brake Clean, let it dry and put some loc-tite blue on it. I then let the bike sit for hour before adding coolant. I think this is a over time it could come loose, not a Luigi forgot to tighten. I do not know if all the dealers have even been made aware of it so don't get too mad at the dealers.

HuskyDude, my understanding on this thermostat (T stat) and yours are different. The 2010 TE/TXC 250 have a thermostat in the hose that prevent coolant from flowing until it reaches the desired temperature. This is located below the left side radiator. This may or may not show circulation with the cap removed when cold. (never open a radiator cap when hot please). The 2010 TC 250 does not have this in the coolant line. The fan is controlled by a temp sensor on the motor and a relay.

Rich, on your bike, by all means contact your dealer. They are a great dealer and I am sure they will solve this for you. If you did not overheat the bike, it is very doubtful that it is the water pump impeller being loose. There are only a few places this lack of coolant could have gone. Either into the oil, out the exhaust, on the ground, or left in Italy somewhere.

I circled in crayon what is believe to be the mechanical thermostat.

Pretty sure there is an actual thermostat in this new 250 series. The fan should be actuated by a temperature transducer located in either the fan assembly or maybe using the coolant temp sensor with the EFI loop.

Here's a clip from a cold start on my '10 250. No coolant moving outside of engine vibration.

Here's a clip after a little warm up. Coolant starting to rise and swirl at around 100F.

Interesting stuff. This thread sparked my curiosity. The cooling system is a little more "busy" than previous years. More lines in the sytem now and I still don't know how they all work together. :busted:

If this is true...I stand corrected...my bad. If this is the case maybe all is fine just a little low on coolant.

Interesting.

Off topic, but why is your compliance sticker on the back of your front fender? I'm sure there must be a reason.

I have no idea why the sticker is located there. I hadn't even noticed it until you said something :) . I don't recall if the 510's was there as well originally either.

Never thought about it, but my sticker is also located on the back of my front fender. It seems like most of the stickers are hidden. Like Coffee said, "must be for a reason."
