  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

new TC449..is it normal to...?

Fired it up to ride it again...The thing smoked far worse then my wr300...Why? possibly to much oil from the factory. (seems full but not over full) It has done it both times i have started it cold, then stops after riding it for a bit., also my brake cable is getting caught on the front number plate then every time it hit a jump or compress the forks hard it pops up from where it was caught. Kinda noisy/annoying, anyone else have this issue..Also the flameout drives me nuts but i can find some other info on that once im ready to address it...Other then that bike feels very powerful and the traction on hills is AMAZING! Boy they sure want that chain tight... I have tigtned it twice and everytime it gets even kinda loose it gets noisy.

Check the air filter for crankcase blow by oil. Place in high power mode, see if it still gets flame outs?

Your the first to hear about the cable sticking on the number plate. I would run try and align it better so is stops catching before I ride it anymore .

I have tried aligning it different and zip tying loosely so It can't still move but not catch, no luck yet but ill keep working on it..
Tinken you could be right I may have accidentally switched it to soft mode...ill try that...if there is oil present in the airbox does that mean it was just to full? If there isn't what else could cause so much smoke while warming up?

It takes these engines quite a while to break in. Mine did the little puffs of smoke until it was all warmed up.

It stopped after about 500 miles. Between 500 & 600 it really started to wake up and had even more power. Switch to a good synthetic oil as well.

yes will be switching on first oil change...im not talking little puffs tho, im talking worse then a two stroke warming up lol...dealer says its normal during break in... says the valves are still seating and all that good stuff, im sure he is correct.

mine smoked a little for the first couple of hours, but not anywhere near what you are describing. The front number plate/brake line is highly annoying...my biggest issue with the bike. Right now I am using a big cable tie around the center of the bar pad and around the cluster of lines. Works, but looks like ass. From what I can see, if the mounting tab was just a little longer towards the front, all lines would clear. I may just go to the old style fender/front number plate. Lastly, ditch the non-oring chain and get a an o-ring chain. Less "stretch" and way less adjustment. I never had any flame out issues, but now have the JD anyway.

Yes I will be ditching the non oring chain soon! The other one stretches like crazy! Started it just now just ha puffs of smoke, no cloud, yesterday I had it leaned over a bit while warming it up maybe that had something to do with it.

worst thing is, the stock chain is shorter than most other link counts out there... can't be used for much anything else out there. Yep, the chain tension is tight for sure, took me a little while to get used to that. I am glad you brought up the number plate, I thought I was the only one... there are few TCs out there, surprised this hasn't come up. Leaning over may be the issue, but maybe not. Just give a little more time... lastly, the stock battery cranks really slow. I went to a 4 cell Ballistic since I just MX, almost triple the CCA.

yep, weight difference is big. The main reason I swapped was because when it was pretty cold out, the stocker barely started the bike. I could have went with an 8 cell and still had a huge weight savings, but a guy here locally had a 4 cell cheaper the retail and I went with it. So now I have a stock chain and battery taking up space...

This may be a 'doh' question, but are you sure it doesnt have 2-stroke gas in it? A touch of oil in the gas is a fuel pump oiling trick, but its always possible that someone....like the seller accidentally filled it with pre-mix.

That I can't confirm, I added 1 gallon of new fuel to it the other day, so I may not ever know if they accidentally filled it with Pre mix.

It wouldn't surprise me that they did... maybe syphon what you can or drain. Start over with all known gas... as far as the the number plate, I couldn't take it anymore and trimmed it flat across, then rounded the edges slightly. Works great and looks way better than a stupid cable tie... with a backwards crease and a point, why would they route a line back there? Oh well, the plate is good to go and I don't have to worry about catching it or buying more stuff.

As of right now it isn't smoking, almost zero when cold, I think I have out three gallons of fuel in it now...as someone said earlier there may have been two stroke fuel in it...I probably will never know...love the way it rides tho! Seem less transition from my 300, easy to ride fast, the biggest difference is the 300 handles corners much differently....glad I have both in the garage!

I swapped over to the front fender / plate from my MY11 TXC250. They fit fine but I needed to trim a small notch in each shroud. No problems with the cables though plus I like the looks better. I swap over a headlight and SM front fender for the road. I wish I had two of these bikes. I can never decide if I want to ride moto or road and its a pain to swap back and forth! Maybe sell the TXC250 for another 449???
