  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New member looking to purchase a 2013 TE310R

Mr Clean

B Class
Good morning everyone. I am a new member from NY and am quite pleased to have found this site. I have been doing a lot of research and I am looking to purchase a 2013 TE310R. I have ridden street bikes in the past, nothing to write home about. The bike I am looking at has just over 450 miles on it and appears to have been well taken care of. It is being purchased from a dealer. I was originally going to purchase a 2015 CRF 250 L, but being just over 6 foot 4 and 215lbs, I do feel much more comfortable on the Husky. I'm just looking for some last-minute advice on the TE 310 or from any owners out there, both good and bad. As far as price goes, the Husky will be about $400 less then the new Honda. My main concern is what I've read so far about the street ability of the Husky versus the Honda. I do plan on riding on the street as well as off-road. I would greatly appreciate any input from the TE 310 R owners out there. Thanks for an awesome site!

How much street riding are you doing ? 310 might be a little weak in that area ...i have a 449 for sale ...love the power , but just dont have the time to ride it..

I had a 2014 CRF250L, and replaced it with a Husqvarna TR650. They also had a new TE310R there as well. The Honda only had 18 HP and weighs 320#, so it is a real turd on the street. Geared down, it does okay off-road. I also put handlebar risers and a tall seat on the Honda, and it fit me at 6'1".

I'm sure that the 310 would run circles around the little Honda.

If you're not going to be doing any majorly technical off-road stuff, then you might want to consider the TR650. It's a bit heavy at 400#, but with almost 60hp, and a tall seat height, you might like it. I love mine.

Here's even one for sale in NY (upstate...not sure if you're in that area).

Thank you for the link. I did end up with the TE310R, feels just right. The Honda seemed like a nice bike, but cramped. I am just getting back into riding thanks to my 13 year old son. I have minimal experience off-road, so the 310 seems plenty for me now:)

I looked at the Honda before I bought my Husky 13 310R in fall of 12. The upside of the Honda was cost Reviews showed it to be good for road use. Downsides to me was the weight. At least 60lbs difference and at 59 I was not willing to buy a bloated pig. Also figured it would need suspension help and more, making the cost creep up... Not as high as the KTM, but splitting the difference with the $8200 Husky. The Husky is setup suspension wise and chassis/brakes. Really nothing was needed hypothetically, and after sitting on the bike felt manageable. So instead of buying the "girls" bike bought the Husky.

I, like you, wanted it for street and dirt. I expected to ride it from town and up to the trails but I tend to always load it in the van to where I am going to ride. I do not want to compromise my dirt riding setup and with floppy fenders, close ratio gearing and knobbies I don't find it worth riding much on the street. It vibrates at street cruising speeds and you wear out your good tires. But it is street legal so I do ride pavement to fuel up, to ride to and from a motel to the trails when traveling with bike and van and can do short runs, but that's about it for me. Knowing it holds but 1 quart of oil means it is not the engine to drone along at speed. It's primarily a enduro race bike that has the luxury of a plate/being street legal.

Not sure if the KTM's or others are any more suitable but the close ratio tranny and small sump may be the main issues with the 310 for street use.
