• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New Dunlop MX52

My usual tires are Pirelli MT16, Pirelli XCMH or Maxxis max cross IT. I saw these new Dunlops and I happen to need a tire for my TC449 at the moment. Anyone have some time on these tires offroad? Tons of MX reviews but being so new very limited info from offroad guys.

The old MX51s were/are very popular with racers here in the mid-atlantic. I haven't heard a lot of feedback about the 52s, but I would expect them to be similar.

Dunlop recently released an off-road-oriented tire to match the motocross-oriented MX series, that AT81. Lots of positive feedback about that tire too. See this thread: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/geomax-at81.39360/

Based on my experience, a MX51/52 or AT81 may not last as long as a MT16 or XCMH. They grip better than the latter, in my opinion.

I may try the 81 on my wr300. There are a few more sizes available in the 18 then the 19. I would have to go to a 110 if I want it and I was looking for a 120 for my 449. That brought me to the mx52. I meant to order one today and be the guinea pig but I got busy:(

if you really want one of dunlops new tires go for the mx32, much better then the mx52.

Shoot...too late...got a 52 mounted and ready to ride already. My 449 is set up for faster desert and more open Sykes stuff. Maybe I'll try a 32 on my 300

I just put a mx52 on the front of my te250r will be testing it out tomorrow.
Is the 32 for softer or harder terain?

Well, that depends on the terrain, right? I haven't run the 52/32 yet, but with the older models lots of ECEA guys were running the 31 for sandy races and the 51 for rocky/mixed races.

See the Dunlop performance chart: http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tir...ture/mxsx-off-road-geomax-series/geomax-mx32/

32 is for soft-intermediate, 52 is for intermediate-hard.

I agree about the terrain thing Kyle. However, the majority of teams were running the mx32 indoors and outdoors and said unless the ground was really hard they pretty much stuck with the mx32 all the time because it was a better all around tire. Check out the video below from Dunlop.

Any more updates on the 32's? We have a couple of WET wood races coming up and need new set of tires. Currently running 51f 71r out in the desert. Was going to try 32's front and rear next for the desert but was wondering how they would work in the slop.

Wouldn't the 52s be the way to go in the desert?

I think 32's would work better in the slop and mud because they are designed more for the intermediate to loose terrain instead of the hard pack. I personally don't know for desert guys because I live on the east coast and our terrain is very different from yours.

Disappointed in the 51 front on my sons bike. The side knobs are already cracking and ready to come off. The rest of the tire looks in really good shape. What are people running that has good traction and lasts?

For what terrain?

Bridgestone M59s are very popular here for rock races. I am going to try one for next weekend's race. AT81 has been getting good reviews too.

Mostly we ride desert loose sand, pumice and dirt with a big mixture of ROCKS. We do have a couple races coming up in the coast range so that will be dirt, roots and mud. Currently we are both running MX71 rears. I feel a major loss of traction with this tire in the loose stuff.

I don't know so much about desert conditions, check with the ZipTy guys maybe? AT81 might work, but I think they also really like the MX51, so that doesn't jive well with your experience.

Kenda Washougal works well in loose stuff in my experience, but is not good in rock gardens.
