  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

new 2012 TE511

Just bought a new one here to learn what I can
Congrats and welcome! You have a awesome bike that can be made even more awesomeer! (I know....not a real word!) Did the dealer perform the P/U? And most important.......did you ride it yet? There is a TON of useful info on here and some really smart people that know their sh@t! But that doesnt include me!:D

I have the same bike , if you wanted a full blown offroad bike with a plate you found a really good one.

Make sure they give you your race map plug . pull the smog can off and cap the plug, heck led the smog hole with solder. JD EFI tuner and FMF slip on. Good to go.

What he said. Plus keep monitoring the discussions of breather/oil recirculation inventions people like Tinken and Rearwheelin are working on. Good stuff! Enjoy your bike. They are awesome.

...and if youre going to be sitting, consider a Seat Concepts seat kit, just enough wider to made it tolerable on short road trips.

Sounds like a lot of tinkering here but its well worth it. This is a great bike with fantastic roots. I did most of what these guys are talking about and quit honestly haven't owned a Dirtbike that I didn't do the exact same things to. My gas cap was cross into the fuel tank, which damaged the threads in the tank. It was this way when I picked it up new. The dealer is not doing much about it, it's a real bugger to screw the cap into the tank. Might want to take a look at that.

Thanks for the replys. I like to tinker. How much is the new can? Best place to buy? Best place to buy different
Sprockets? I live 12 miles from my riding club, all slow 2 lane, 55mph tops. Tolerable on her?

Just picked mine up! going riding on sunday:banana: just fitted click n ride led indicators (just pull off no tools ) and modified the license plate holder so i can just loosen 2 bolts an pull of the rear indicators and license plate without removing any other plastics ( sick of breaking or loosing them in the bush ) and fitted a 10 watt led spot light just as a start....

One of the local riding areas is about 40 miles from my house.
No prob on the 511.
It doesn't hold much fuel, tho.

Sprockets: front from Motosportz. Skidplate and disk guards from there too, as well as a few other goodies.

Rear sprockets: I like the ones from

Rad guard: http://www.7602racing.com/husqvarna_te_tc_txc_449_511.php
I like their oil drain plugs too

Aluminum fuel cap is a Husky part, see your dealer.

+1 on the Seat Concepts saddle, a big improvement.

Oh, if yours comes with the same Karoos as mine did you will want to upgrade ASAP.

Have fun!

You don't HAVE to throw that much money at it right away. The motor takes quite a few hundred miles to break in. I still have the stock can on mine and it will roost power wheelies all day.

All I'm saying is you can indeed enjoy it without dropping an extra grand on it.

Make sure the dealer does the p/u and ride it as is for now unless your like me and are itching to mod! Gearing might be the only thing you will need to mess with. Maybe start with on tooth smaller on the c/s for now if you need it geared lower. I havnt ridden a TE so I am not sure how they are geared. I usually ride a new bike for a bit first and decide which mods to do. If it runs pretty flawless and your happy with the power then maybe start with protection parts. If it has any FI issues or you want more power then start with power parts. Then there is always the 'bling' factor! Thats usually last for me thought! And like K5PL5 said. Keep an eye on the oil overflow. Just my .02.

I put on a JD and an FMF powercore 4 for under $450 shipped. Got the can off Ebay for $228 shipped. Was brand new and he shipped it super fast. He had like 10 more when I bought it so might still have some. Ebay name was jdeere20. I also put a 45 tooth rear sprocket on mine and cut 2 links off the chain. Used a black steel one from here - http://sprocketcenter.com/index.php/off-road-sprockets/husqvarna/511-te-11-12.html

I can cruise at 60 all day long now and it still lugs down low.

If yours does not have a keyed ignition I put one on and I love the false sense of security it gives me :). It was cheap, easy to install, and I got it from here - http://sicassracing.com/store/produ...switch?zenid=0100c7b0acd7c742e28b6636439f3272

I removed the rear plate holder/blinkers and put some of the sportbike sticky blinkers right on the tail. It's super clean and now they won't get torn off if I go down. Mounted the plate right to the little plastic fin below the tail light, looks and works great. That's about $600 in parts (for everything I just listed) and a couple hours of install time and you transform a nice light easygoing dualsport into a sexy beast. My next upgrade will probably be the seat concepts seat, and if anyone ever comes out with a rear rack I will be all over it.

Thanks for the information, ordering the FMF, dealer did the rest already. Bike has Dunlap 606's on it, have used
These in the past and they are good. When I get the can on, I think I will ride and change oil for a bit before deciding
On gearing and bling, farkles. Sounds like I am in the same frame of mind as you all. I really appreciate the replys,
I'm sure more questions will come with some hours.
