  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New 2010 TC250 - Does it have all factory updates?

Found a very good buy on a new 2010 TC250. Concerned over rumours of the hard starting. Dealer has said there are some factory updates for some of these models based on their vin#. This one ends in 00079. Confirmed there is a carb update (bulletin B018) available but unsure what it addresses. Who know the facts about factory updates?

What color is the excell rims letters (white is later model) also is there any black on engine cases the later one were black. Mine starts ok not like my 2 stroke but not bad. There was only one time hot it would not start but 20min later one kick?

I have an early one with yellow lettered rims and it starts fine. There is some tuning to do on the carb, but you have to do that to KTM's also.

Has anyone actually had factory updates done at time of purchase or returned bike for these updates? In these cases were they covered under warranty?

The carb updates were only a certain VIN sequence and it was for a specific time period only to claim the parts.

Chances are if your bike has white excel on the rims, it is a later build bike with the updated CDI and cam.

My '10 was a finicky starter and it had all the usual tricks thrown at it but I only used it for moto so it wasn't a big deal but I'd be hard pressed to suggest one for offroad use based on my experience in spite of what some here may report. If I'm not mistaken Motosportz was recently chasing some starting issues on his '10 so you may want to give him a shout for some feedback.
I currently have an '11 TC250(fi) and it's a much more consistent and easier starter.

Just got off the phone with the dealer. His conversations with husky (sales rep & tech.) indicate the bike will get the carburetor update (bulletin B018) which probably should have been installed some time ago. There is no factory cam update for this model and only a handful of very early models had a different CDI. That what I know. Anyways the bike is soon to be mine!
