  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Need some Te499 info and advice

Hello,

I am seriously thinking about the TE499. It has pretty much everything I have been looking for but I need to be sure it is right before I drop the cheese on a bike this pricey.

I have about 12500 miles on a DRZ 400s on mild to medium trails and open country like Moab (Onion Creek, White Rim, stuff like that) I have about 500k miles on sport bikes under my belt since 2004. I am seasoned rider.

Will the Te499 be enough? How is it compared to the tractor like power of the DRZ? I am looking to ride mostly trails and a little bit of commuting. What is the service like? I tend to put a lot of miles on a bike. I don't mind the work or the cost of keeping up on a bike. It's part of the deal.

Should I be looking at the 511 instead or will the 499 satisfy me for a few years? AND, where can I find service info on the new TE's? service intervals and the like.

Thanks for any input guys.

Husky is offering leftover 2011 for $6,599. With the ride more promotion. Your not going to find much in that price range! I had a DRZ400E and would compare peak power more to a TE250 power wise sure the 250 needs to be ridden harder to make the same power but the 449 should be leaps and bounds above a DRZ. DRZ's aren't exactly know for power and light weight take the jump already.

I just got the TE 449 and made it a supermoto. I am loving it so far. I added a full FMF exhaust and thinking about doing the JD tuner. 120 miles so far and it has been great!

I wouldn't call it a commuter bike. I would call it a more capable dirt bike than the DRZ. I'd call the TE an excellent play bike with the bits needed to roll you through town to get gas before heading back on the trail.

Where can I find info on this? I'm not seeing anything on the Husq site.

I wouldn't describe the power as Tractor like. I only have 30mi. on mine due to work, Blah blah blah.
Never rode a DRZ But changed from the WR250R to the 449. The more I ride it the more I like it.
Just different. Fun, yes Fun.

Hi there i have a 511 it has a very decent amount of torque that really peaks when the second throat of fuel injection kicks in.... some think it feels reluctant to rev but this is not the case, its just that vibration make it feel like you'd be better off short shifting..... its a hill climbing weapon, my only gripe is the gearing, i like to do tight technical, snotty, rutted stuff... i found 1st geat way to tall compared to a Drz 400. tall gearing combined with little engine breaking make down hills a nightmare, i actually turn the engine off and use brakes only.... i get way more control rather than the engine pushing me forwards.... i have changed the sprocket to a 13 tooth it has helped heaps but obviously reduces the top speed.... as i do mostly obstacles and hill climbs this is ok for me, but if i did commuting with it it would be a problem.... so for me great bike but crap transmission ratios....
something to consider..... oh yeh feels very tall.... new model has been reduced slightly ( before anyone shoots me down its only my opinion)
